Some advice for password scripts for my new paysite?

Hi there, I've been making a certain type of fetish video for a few years and have developed my skill to the point where I think I could convince people to join a paysite to see my work. I have a marketing plan and enticing site design worked out, but I'm a bit confused by some of the technicalities.

Because of the nature of the design, and how I produce my videos, I want to upload everything by hand with no CMS software. The way I understand it, my paysite can be just two folders on my server - one is the public intro and the other is time-limit password protected. But when it comes to generating these passwords on payment do I have to rely on my payment processor? I plan to have several billing options available (CCBill, one of the paybyphone providers) and I'm concerned I won't be able to integrate them into a simple script.

I'm also building a bunch of affiliate resources which people can use to drive traffic to my site through (probably) CCBill's affiliate solution. I'm not sure if that will need to be taken into account when figuring out how to generate passwords... As you can see I am pretty uninformed about this stuff, but my content, site design, and marketing strategy "feel" like they will work. I wouldn't want to invest $5000 into a feeling at this stage, but I also don't want to use a third party to provide one of those all-in-one hosting/billing services. So I hope somebody can give me a little advice on setting up a bare-bones paysite script that generates passwords and is integrated with billing processing easily.

Thank you for any help.

strongbox maybe?

i would use an expiring download script, so the link is only activate for a x amount of time.

ive done this before.

Hi, thanks for the comments. You reminded me that security is a major concern, although Strongbox looks a bit inconvenient for the user it might be the way to go. I thought that if you were trying to download from a pw protected folder, you would need to be signed in to download anyway? What are the advantages of time limited download links? If you've got any other advice I'd love to hear it.

Strongbox will integrate the different billers, who will each assign their own passwords, or we can set it up to assign better passwords than the processors do by default.

I'm not sure what you mean about inconvenient, the surfers just clicks "Log In". It's simpler than logging in to gmail, gfy, or certainly yahoo. Give me a call and we can adress any concerns you may have, though. I'm Ray and can be reached at 979-530-1300 or email [email protected] and Ali or I will help you with any questions or concerns.

Does Strongbox tie a login to a specific browser/IP/whatever other identifier, making it difficult for customers who might use several computers, with various ISPs? That looks like it could be inconvenient for the user, but isn't a huge deal considering the upsides.

Would Strongbox work with pay per minute phone billing for streaming video, as well as monthly access download options for each video?

Thanks, thought I may as well ask these questions publicly, rather than email.

Elevated X has dozens of pay site CMS customers using Strongbox and ProxyPass. I've only heard positive feedback about both security scripts.

Contact raymor and I'm sure he can work with you to get you setup with what you need. :thumbsup

Hey I sent you a email from admin at weirdpornsearch.com

Hmmmm... Pay per phone minute? Chargeback galore comes to mind if you are actually intending to bill the phone company.

Htpasswd files is what billers write to, among others. It is ***so*** easy for a programmer to pull from these files and create you a master file for logins should you choose 1 or 20 billers.

I think you really need to sit down with someone and iron out exactly how you intend to bill for your site.

Your questions are vague at best and lead me to believe you need a lot of help. Don't take it the wrong way, not trying to insult your project.

That's not a problem. With statistics on millions of logins over fourteen years, we know how many different IPs, browsers, locations, etc. are normal and what it looks like when passwords are compromised. If Strongbox says they have out their password, that, pretty much means they have out their password. That's especially true if we assigned them a good password. If you let them choose "password" as their password, it's possible that they didn't knowingly share it, but still that should be addressed.

Yes. As beaner said, we probably need to chat because some of this quickly gets into details of your site and how best to set it up.

let's find out exactly how you're going to set up this paysite - is it going to be the customer pays a certain amount and gets access to all the videos in the protected members area? that's how 95% of paysites work. simple.

or are you wanting to charge people on an a la carte basis where they can buy each video individually?

the first scenario is very easy - CCBILL takes care of all the password management. for affiliate tools you have scripts like Woj's that are fine and not expensive.

if it's the second scenario you'll need something like PhantomFlicks http://phantomflicks.com 24.95 a month. or you could hire a programmer to code your own similar script - i've seen others besides PhantomFlicks.

you definitely don't need to spend anywhere near 5K
