Don't feel bad, It's an extreme sport too, and a full-contact sport.

"Laird Hamilton, who by all accounts absolutely ruled this epic session from the word go. "There was everybody else, and then there was Laird," says Sharp. "He simply schooled everyone out." Riding what seemed like an absurdly short 6 2" tow-board, Hamilton faded where others ran for the shoulder, carved with confidence where other surfers chattered and basically rode 60-foot Peahi as if it were 10-foot Honolua. On one massive wall he dropped into the bowl, turned mid-face and carved up into the lip, top-turning at full velocity on a wave whose top was over five stories high. Hamiltons futuristic performance was the perfect punctuation on a historic day of surfing, a standard-setting session that put to rest any speculation about the new direction of big-wave riding.

Remember the date. November 26, 2002: the day big-wave surfing's future officially arrived."

hehe.... yeah, I stay over here on this side of the island where ya only get beaten to pulp... got no desire to play with those killers. There was another set like this one at Peahi last month too, but I think the November sets were bigger. Anyway.... I think I'm gonna order the DVD for this one.... looks pretty spectacular. :glugglug

Everytime I go to the North Side of the Island all the surfers are sitting on the beach waiting for the waves to only be reasonably deadly not crazy deadly.

They sure have some surf there.

funny story: had a tourist a few weeks ago that wanted to get some waves... (complete newb) so we went to what's normally not a bad spot over here on this side, but just happened that that week the swells were kinda brutal.... and this guy goes running out... no fear whatsoever..... and no clue. Until he got hosed by one of 'em.. lol.... and he wasn't even on it.... he was sitting there enjoying the sunshine, and watching the beach!

I was about 100 feet away and pointing like a madman.... by the time he turned around it was on him.... lol.... nothin' but feet and board flying

he was up on the beach and a little shaky in the legs after that... hehehe.... :1orglaugh
