With the other thread about a TV series based on Goodfellas :Oh crap - I wonder what are your favorites, the ones you consider the best?

My top 5:

4. A Bronx Tale

agree 100% on 4 the "A Bronx Tale" haven't seen yet...

I think Heat would be more of a gangster movie. Along the lines of Reservoir Dogs, which I would of definitely included if it would be considered mafia. That shoot out scene outside the bank in Heat, amazing! If you have a good surround sound system, you can feel every shot fired and it makes the hairs on the back of your neck stand up :1orglaugh

Not mafia but still an AWESOME gangster movie = SCARFACE

As you're watching this scene, you realize why Leo is the boss. The guy is painting a masterpiece with that Thompson.

Not a movie per se, but gotta throw HBO series Boardwalk Empire into the mix.

Another very good one is the HBO film "Gotti".

Just saw "Kill the Irishman" about the real life mob war between the Italian mob and Celtic mob (based on true story). Maybe not Godfather great, but still a good mob movie nonetheless and worth seeing if you like mobster movies.

I'd add in Once Upon A Time In America, Billy Bathgate, The Cotton Club and Hoodlum.

If we are talking British gangster films then you have to mention Snatch and RocknRolla. Sexy Beast was also great. Layer cake was a bit overrated I thought....... still need to see Gangster No. 1.

It's amazing but not too well-known abroad. Good find for fans of the genre. Beautiful cinematography, ost and great acting

All the obvious good ones are here already, and I would recommend Layer Cake and Once upon a time in America for those that haven't seen them, as well as a few UK gangster movies I didn't see listed yet, Lock Stock and two smoking barrels, The Long Good Friday and the original Get Carter with Michael Caine (not Sly Stalone).

The mini serie "Corleone" is very good.About the real life of Toto "The Beast "Riiana.

Great movies there, sexy beast is a must for all ray winston fans

yeah drug cartel and gangster movies have a bit of a different swagger I'd say. Blow was crazy. A perfect example of what a bit of mis direction can do to otherwise intelligent and driven people.

I still recommend to watch he "Бригада" movie (only 12 episodes actually), especially since it's all on YouTube with English subtitles. It's really different to a Godfather, Scarface erc. I can't say it's better of worse. It's just... different.

It's about "Russian hitman", but 80% of action performed in the USA. Personally I like this movie.

Has you paling "Grand Theft Auto IV"? This movie is the infusion of that game.
