Maybe you're improving his/her life, crippled people get a lot of sympathy ...

sentence is down to what he intended to do, not the outcome of his actions.

How long should you get for punching someone? That's what he did, right. By chance, serious injury resulted from that punch.

It's a difficult thing to judge, in my opinion. Get drunk and drive, run into something, you get probation. Get drunk and drive, run into someone you get years in prison. Their actions are no different, just blind luck whether the drunk runs into a something or a someone.

they legal system has always favored property over people. nothing new. go burn down a couple car lots at night and see what happens.

What legal precedence are you relying on that would suggest life imprisonment? Why not just execute them? Far less expensive.
