Where to buy the cheapest air fare tickets?

I'm just browsing around for a one way ticket from New Orleans to Newark and the cheapest I can find is around $600 ?!?! That sounds insanely expensive to me?

Ive always found going directly to the airline has always been cheaper for me.

also just went to southwest.com and picked a random date (jan 25th one way ) and you can go from New Orleans, LA to Newark, NJ for $109

That is expensive. I just got a round trip ticket from michigan to florida for $250 at travelocity.
