55-inch TV - 4 millimithers thick.. hellz yeah
Finally a big ass OLED TV will be released.
LG?s 55-inch OLED model is 4 millimeters thick, and weighs 7.5 kilograms, according to the company. It will also feature 3- D functions and Web-based services, Hong said. http://www.bloomberg.com/news/2012-0...f-of-year.html |
This comes as no surprise really. I was at CS a few years ago and they were displaying super thin TV screens that were really nothing more than glass. No buttons, everything was all glass. Fucking awesome. I was wondering when this was going to on sale to the general public.

... and it will probably cost $10k+

LG, Samsung, and one or two more just got fined real heavily over running a price fix for there TVs. This is one reason for a price drop. The companies are looking to make a profit off of these new TVs, that's why you can expect the extra high prices. Kinda like a Mac, expensive as is, but then they jack it up even more. :thumbsup |
4 millimeters is the thickness of the panel and not the actual plastic enclosure of the TV, right?

I still remember walking around Best Buy in the 90s and staring at the pioneer plasma TV that was the latest thing out. It wasn't more than 50" and cost between $15 - $20,000
I marveled at the black frame like bezel and how it was thin enough to hang on the wall like a picture. For me it was a dream and surly only the people with houses fit for MTV Cribs would ever have one. Fast forward to 2007 and I got a 50" Panny Plasma for under $2,000 that was every bit as good as that $15,000 TV I dreamed of years before. Now for under $1,000 you can get a 50" plasma much better than mine. New tech commands top dollar but if you can afford to wait you will eventually be able to afford it. It just won't be the latest anymore. |
we have 55 inch tvs in the office, the controls are on glass, pretty cool, waiting for the glass monitors like on the Minority Report

I spent $1500 on my regular LED 47" no way I'd fork out $8-10k just for a TV.
|
I'll take 4 and make them run as 1 large wide screen. 10k is nothing.

how much better can it get? Does it need to? HD with LED and over 50 inches is big enough for most living rooms already. Anything better than hd? can your eyes tell the difference? Why is thinner better? Less power would be nice...
3d is dead in a year or two if its not already so thats not the future... |
