So I sign up for Net Flix.. but the quality is horrible?

Whats all the hype around this site when the quality of their stream is almost unwatchable?

MrBottomTooth 12-22-2011 07:04 PM

What country are you in? I know in Canada at one point they had cut down the bit rate of the stream by almost 2 thirds because of the bandwidth caps that went into effect earlier in the year.

Supz 12-22-2011 07:08 PM

never have an issue with quality.

Tube Ace 12-22-2011 07:11 PM

I get HD quality on netflix streams.

FreeHugeMovies 12-22-2011 07:18 PM

Damn you poor

MrMaxwell 12-22-2011 07:20 PM

There is some thing like CTRL+SHIF+W or some shit that lets you set the stream rate

mikesouth 12-22-2011 07:22 PM

Netflix tries to auto detect your bandwidth and stream to you accordingly if you have DSL lite or even regular old DSL you wont get a very good stream If you have cable or fios or uverse or whatever (over 3mbps) you should get very good quality on the HD releases...I do.

Lace 12-22-2011 07:51 PM

Just picked up Netflix since I canceled my cable (fuck comcast) and it looks good to me. SD even looks pretty good.

I did go into my account settings and set the bitrate crap last night though. Not sure if it changed much here.

It is not meant to be used with a dial up connection.

Then your router must have issues. As stated above, the only time I have ever encountered issues was in IN when goodgirl had to router too far away from the TV.

Have lead walls? Fluorescent lights?

xenigo 12-22-2011 08:33 PM

Yeah, only on rare occasions will the stream quality go down to something less than HD... easily 99% of the time it looks pretty damn good. Not quite Bluray quality but acceptably close. I think we're on a 20megabit Comcast connection.

moeloubani 12-22-2011 08:40 PM

i get x-high HD in canada its really nice but right now im seeing lots of videos with little messages underneath them that say available until jan 1st as if the selection here could get any worse ... booooo netflix!

woj 12-22-2011 08:55 PM

lets see some screenshots

Mr Pheer 12-22-2011 10:55 PM

Sometimes I get a little pixelation, but normaly its very good and thats streaming it over wifi.

raymor 12-22-2011 11:03 PM

To compare to DVD and Bluray, DVD is 6-10 mbps and Bluray is 54 mbps.

bronco67 12-22-2011 11:06 PM

I don't mind the quality -- its the selection that sucks. It really sucks.

Lucky for me I do not have a cap on my 20mbps cable package with my ISP/Cable TV/Phone provider. Of course, if I was to go with the 40mbps or 100mbps package there would be a cap. Anyone with Bell for DSL or Rogers is capped no matter which package they get with them. I'm with East Link (http://www.eastlink.ca)
