Cool video! Thanks for sharing... :thumbsup

I love Hendrix and SRV both, each in their own way... :bowdown

Robin Trower, who had a distinctive style of his own, was also compared to Hendrix for a time:

SRV was very much influenced by Hendrix, so I would say Hendrix is the inventor and therefor better. My favorite guitarist, who was also influenced by Hendrix of course:

Btw Jakez did you ever see this interview with The Who's Pete Thownsend, telling how he thought to stop his music carreer when he saw Hendrix playing in London? Very funny :)

In a Television Interview On Dick Cavett in 1968 Jimi Hendrix Named Billy Gibbons as his favorite Guitar Player.

Billy still got it!!

Jimi set the world on fire and redefined the electric guitar as we know it. While I love SRV's style, tone and overall vibe ... Jimi still far and away is the man.

Listen to Machine Gun live from the fillmore ... you will see :)

Both of them taken too soon.

I still remember first hearing about SRV. Horrible loss.

Billy Gibbons is awesome. I saw him at the New Orleans airport one day years ago and he was talking to some other people so I didn't have the nerve to butt in and say hello.
Of course I probably would have said something like "Billy Gibbons you're great man, ZZ Top rules!"
So probably best I didn't;)

Sorry but anyone who compares ZZ Top to Hendrix really needs to have his ears checked... ZZ Top is elevator muzak, Hendrix is trip music.

Here's another great guitarist who took inspiration from Hendrix and died a few months ago:

(so next thread will be about guitarists inspired by Hendrix and not dead yet lol)

Um, I think what they're comparing is their guitar-playing style and overall talent, not their songs. :2 cents:

The best recommendations for who is a great guitarist often comes from great guitarists themselves. If Hendrix once said that Billy Gibbons was one of his favs back in the day and that he liked the guy's playing then that's good enough for me.

I'm sure if Hendrix had of known Alex Lifeson, or Tom Scholtz of Boston, or Peter Frampton for that matter, he'd have liked their playing too.
