who the fuck buys a CAR for christmas?

so sick of Lexus ads, with their bowtied cars, & elitist stink. If i could afford to buy a car as a gift, i'm getting Porsche, not a cookie cutter car for the rich wannabe class.

DBS.US 12-18-2011 09:12 PM

Maybe the kind of people that can afford to buy a car as a gift like Lexus?

edgeprod 12-18-2011 09:22 PM

I bought my wife a Viper for Christmas 2008, why is that so weird? Cars are good presents at Christmas, because they can't find them in the closet or under the tree and spoil the surprise.

Bonus? I kept the Viper in the divorce.

Joshua G 12-18-2011 09:26 PM

yeah but you guys are rich. buying a car is not odd to a rich person. i'm at the bottom, & the ads are just rubbing it in.

but edgeprod you did it right. you bought an exotic.

edgeprod 12-18-2011 09:29 PM

To be honest, the ads made me visit the dealership. The cars were shitty up close, so I passed.

I understand where you're coming from - I'm somewhat jaded on Christmas in general so getting a car for someone seems rather extravagant. Consider though that in some cases the person may have been needing to get a car or on the fence to get one anyways. So it gets attached to Christmas for sentimentality or something. I'd be afraid they'd expect something that good every year after though, lol.

baddog 12-18-2011 09:32 PM

I bought myself a car for Christmas in 2005.

Jakez 12-18-2011 09:36 PM

Some people can afford to gift a Porsche, some can only afford to gift a Lexus? Plenty of others can't afford to gift a car at all..

Joshua G 12-18-2011 09:42 PM

actually numerous automakers are shilling cars right now. But the music, the way Lexus bowties their cars, the recipient is always feigning suprise. Their ads really bother me in a way others don't.

ErectMedia 12-18-2011 09:43 PM

I bought my last 2 cars just before Christmas. Neither were Lexus last one was a Honda but a good time to get deals. :thumbsup

baddog 12-18-2011 09:43 PM

In all honesty, I did not surprise myself at all. I should have tried harder.

HandballJim 12-18-2011 09:47 PM

A lot of people, a friend of mine who works for Toyota in their finance department is working 7 days a week during the season. He would be the guy who screws you, after the sales man just gave you a great deal. :1orglaugh

I can understand when people buy themselves a car, the deals are good. would you buy a Lexus for someone else? Thats a lot of disposable money.

God bless to those who can. My rant is class envy. & if i was in class, the last thing im getting is a toyota marked up 50%.

BFT3K 12-18-2011 10:11 PM

Who buys a cat for your Christmas? I'm corroding people who need to buy a car amd don't want to ALSO buy a Christmas present.

A year ago, my wife needed a car. We had to get her a car simply because she need a car yo get back and forth to work. It was December, so I said "Merry Christmas" when I showed her the car and I got credit for being awesome. Inside, I felt like I got away with NOT getting her a present, just the car we were going to get anyway.

Actually, there were no deals for my car. I got it before someone else did. I wanted it now.

I saw an article a few years back about the lexus commercials. They do well enough to justify the campaign for many years.

It's like asking why there are so many penis pill ads on tubes. Obviously people are buying penis pills.

Think of all the hookers you could have banged for that amount and they wouldn't give you trouble. Maybe an STD, but no trouble. You still would have had a gift that keeps on giving.

Nydahl 12-19-2011 03:48 AM

I bought BMW 3 series to my exGF once + prada shoes for 1500 bucks , was nice xmass - we broke up in March so....

My dad bought my mom a Lexus for Christmas a couple years ago to replace the Lexus he bought her a few years before.

Set it up with the salesman to call her on Christmas day to "come look at" the exact Lexus she wanted (Black Diamond ES330), and drove us around the lot for about 10 minutes saying he couldn't find it and thought it was sold. Ended up driving up to it with a bow on it and a sold sign and she got all disappointed. The look on her face was pretty priceless when she walked up to it and saw the family name on the sold tag.

So yes, people do buy them for Christmas. They really go the extra mile for it too.

Stephen 12-19-2011 07:28 AM

The wife and I were looking at properties at the beach yesterday.

"Is this a Christmas present for your wife?" the agent asked.

"What does it look like, a friggen' Lexus?" I replied...

She seemed confused, like she didn't "get it" :upsidedow

So those stupid, elitist ads that are on around the clock on every Xmas are on for the .01% of people that can buy a car as a gift? People that have that kind of disposable income aren't watching TV -- they're on a yacht drinking Cristal and getting blown by 3 supermodels.

CurrentlySober 12-19-2011 07:51 AM

I personally find it more beneficial to buy a sleigh... :2 cents:

no, they are often people who can't afford it and get heavy leases that make them broke instead :1orglaugh

I"m sorry, but this is the silliest post of the thread.... It's makes you sound like one of those "Occupy" drones.

First of all, if you can afford a large yacht you wouldn't buy a piece of crap like a Lexus. They fall apart and lose value so fast it's crazy.

Secondly Lexus are certainly not that expensive that only .01% of people can buy one, and if your spouse needs a new car anyway, why not buy it at christmas time? I bought my wife a Volvo XC70 for Christmas last year. Her honda was getting old, she needed a new car, and it was a nice surprise for her to have it show up on Christmas day.

Thirdly, and most importantly if the ads didn't result in increased sales that resulted in a justifiable ROI, they wouldn't keep running them each year. So obviously there are plenty of people buying cars at Christmas, not just "elitist .01%, yacht, cristal types....

It's a Lexus, not a limited edition Lamborghini.

I'm sorry, what do you drive these days? I'm guessing I have more cars than you have bathrooms in your apartment.
