Okay boys & girls, it's self-discovery time.
something boneprone said about something I can't remember in another thread that was completely unrelated that I can't find, got me to thinking about something else that has no connection, which ultimately led me to this...
When you do a certain amount of work, you usually find a point where you sit back and say, wow.... I got alot done there.... and you either take a break or maybe just sit back and absorb it for a little while... well, for me that used to be like, kick out 3 or 4 sites, and think, cool... kickin' ass, lookin' good.... that was the comfort/break zone..... then you get back into it. but lately.... I've just realized that this is happening far too frequently. Like, I'll change the color of some text and hey... lookin' good! Break time! wtf? how the hell did this happen? and how the fuck do I fix it? anyone else got any mind numbing revelations? Let's share folks... people pay good money for this kind of therapy. |
that's exactly how I end up here when I do. "Hey that looks bitchin', break time." LOL

Wait..... you mean, I'm not making money for posting here?
|
just know that if the problem keeps getting worse and you start taking more and more breaks the poorer you might become - works for me every time.
|
Sounds like you've caught that dreaded Designeritis disease. Take 2 aspirins, some tea with honey, and get back to work.

You become spoiled with the freedom you have cause NO ONE is telling you to get off youre ass. It can snowball and you get lazier and lazier. Have to be Hungry at all times or you will just fizzle to shit. I have a cigg break every god dam 10 min. Rediculous.

I used to design alot of sites and I would always gt up take a break and come back with a fresh idea.. |
haha, i was like that the past 4 years of design basically cause i was never in a situation in which i need money.. but now, the past 5 months, since now money is a necessity, i'm workin harder and harder, and i focus a lot more. i guess being poor will do that to ya.
but in a situation in which you're comfortable with your life, most are comfortable with their work, perhaps too comfortable. but with design, you're on a rollercoaster. sometimes you'll be inspired for awhile, and then other times you find yourself at a stand still. its all about changing it up and trying new things. |
is this what they call a "glut"?

I had that problem last year almost to where I wasn't working for weeks at a time. This year I set a bunch of goals and started looking into new things to keep my interest peaked, aswell getting out of office occasionally. Seems to be helping and making me more productive. Try looking into other avenues that can take you away from designing for periods of time so when you go back you can get back into the grove. |

I took a few weeks completely off to enjoy the fruits of my labors, got a plan, and got back to work. What helped me the most was setting some hard limits on the time I spend in front of the computer screen each day. |
<- burnt out.
i can only get enough energy to do a little on my personal sites right now... even my normal job is suffering. heh. |

There. Problem solved. Now you can do what I do - smoke while you work! :) If they really wanted us to get work done, they'd tie up Lensman and shut down GFY. :D |

So I think I'm gonna try an experiment and see if it helps.... gonna shut this fucker down at 5pm daily. If I know I only got until 5, maybe it'll kick me in the ass and get me going while I'm here. |

Shit man you're in Maui, i'll bet there's plenty of things you can do to ease your mind for a day or two out of the week. |
just try to spice it up, try some new design techniques. try flash if you haven't already. maybe 3d modeling.
