Too bad they missed the boat. Again.

From looking at the list of domains, they could all be used very well to benefit .xxx domain holders. Holding onto these domains and developing them will be mutually beneficial.

Caligari 12-18-2011 06:42 PM

Those are just all the domains they will be using to help webmasters make tons of money from their extremely valuable .XXX real estate;)

I heard recently that a lot of recent tlds (like .me, etc) held back thousands of premium domain names. Does anyone know if this is customary or know what those figures are like and confirm whether this is or isn't out of the ordinary?

Redrob 12-18-2011 07:19 PM

Given the actions of previous Tlds, holding back domains does not mean your launch will be successful.

baddog 12-18-2011 07:29 PM

Wouldn't you?

Interesting question....which leads me to ask do any rules exsist when you launch a new tld ? the reason i ask is it seems .XXX (ICM) seem to make them up on a daily basis depending on the situation or problem at hand.

Yes of course i would keep all the best ones :) but i would expect ICANN to have regulations in place to stop me abusing the situation ?

This is NOT just a new registry holding premium names back (but they are doing that too).

This is a registry holding the absolutely very best names that are connected to traffic and money and using those names to enter YOUR business and compete against you.

There is nothing else even remotely comparable to this scheme in any new TLD. Every new registry holds back premium names for auction now. But they don't use the domain names themselves to enter an industry and make money.

You are the domain diva, shouldn't you have the answer to that?

prbot from icm has already posted that they have plans for a billing system and a search engine. Judging from that list they are going to be doing a lot more than just that.

are you stupid and blind or just stupid?

Jakez 12-18-2011 08:49 PM

I'm honestly not for or against this .xxx thing because I don't see it taking off the way they hope and people fear it will. But even if I were totally against this TLD I still don't see what's wrong with doing this? They're essentially trying to create a managed porn webmaster community around the extension, nothing shady about that just common sense..

You said, "holding the absolutely very best names that are connected to traffic and money and using those names to enter YOUR business and compete against you."

How about one example?

They are trying to create a traffic monopoly in the extension they are contracted to run with highly valuable domain names they didn't have to pay for.

A registry operator runs the registry. It doesn't build websites and startup side businesses.

Good for Lawley & co I say. The adult industry really is the low-hanging fruit.

Does selling off premium domains to private speculators in backroom deals for huge sums of money who by the way have no interest and will never have any interest in the adult industry really sound like building a safe porn community or a money grab? using common sense like you recommend leaves me thinking its the latter ?

It's standard now. For example: Dotmobi held over 5700 names in reserve (http://mtld.mobi/documents/Premium_N...st_16Jan07.pdf) , Dotme currently has over 2000 in reserve (http://www.domain.me/about-premium-names) and Dotco reserved some 4,600.

AdultEUhost 12-19-2011 10:42 AM

Not really a surprise, it was clear from the beginning Stuart wants to be the new Fabian
No worries people, it is all in the best interest of xxx domain holders :1orglaugh

These domains are different. These ones are listed as owned by ICM, not premium reserved escrow like most of the heldback domains.

Congratulations, I think you're the first person to understand so far.

I had no idea why Manwin would cite anti-competitive practices in their lawsuit against ICM but it makes a lot more sense now in this light.
