I think there should be a blacklist of hosting companies on GFY, it would make living much easier. I'd like to warn you to stay away from another catastrophy on this planet, Dreamhost.com!!! My server has been down for nearly...48 hours now. I'll be charging back as many months as possible

OP's incident aside, why is dreamhost percieved to be so shitty? I've had a few sites with them for about a year and a half with no problems.

Who is a good sharedhost these days with a similar setup?

Dreamhost's virtual hosting is perfect for low-traffic feeder sites and blogs. Their dedicated servers simply suck.

sometimes paying a little more / month goes a long way, talking from experience here with another host i won't name (they post here a Lot $$)

I'm not sure what these figures have in common with hosting but as a matter of fact I started my business plan in 2001 :-) and went through many both hosting and billing companies. Unfortunatelly nowadays the only business plan is cutting costs.

Dreamhost Shared hosting is only for your sites which collectively make under $100 a month. Sites you don't care about but still don't want to lose. Anything more then get a better host.

We work with different hosts everyday. Dreamhost is among the worst, in my opinion.

Hostgator is fine for a hobby site. Neither target professionals. Amerinoc, Webair, Mojohost and others target professional sites.

Hostgator dwarfs every host thrown around here, their support is amazing and I can't think of one issue I've had with them in years and years. The only reason I don't use them for more stuff is that their dedicated servers are pricey.

I have a ton of virtuals with them with dedicated ips for my mainstream sites, working out very nicely so far.

Hostgator is one of the badest company too, cheating some friends and business partners some years ago. I don't know why everyone like them so much. You get what you pay for!!!

The hardware and network you are hosted on become irrelevant if you do not have top notch support.

I really liked Dreamhost. They were one of my first hosts. I wanted to keep using them for sites that didn't matter for monetization, etc.. but even then they just got worse and worse. I wish they were better but with shared hosting you always have to deal with other sites that abuse the server and impact your own sites. When Amerinoc lured me over a few years ago, I gave it a try and I haven't had any issues. I highly recommend Amerinoc.com if you're looking for affordable premium-quality hosting. You really don't we keep our servers low loaded, about 300 accounts where they have over 1000 per server it costs more but our shared hosting almost never is effected by other accounts bursting.

I haven't used dwhs, but I've been with Amerinoc.com for awhile now and have NO complaints. I've used a lot of popular hosts from GFY and could tell you a few stories about my experiences with each but have had nothing bad to say about Amerinoc so far.

Troll post? Hostgator is BY FAR one of the absolute worst webhosts out there, as far as the bigger shared places go. Hostgator and Dreamhost are both notoriously bad.

I don't bother listening to web hosts explaining their "great services" to me, I do my own thorough research. Seriously, just read up on any and all reviews on a host your interested in and listen to real customers and ex-customers. There's several large web hosting forums out there that have a wealth of information on different web hosts. I chose a mainstream host for my adult content and I haven't had any trouble with them and the only ticket I've ever had to open with them was just to get a dedicated IP. In the 2 years I have been with them the only downtimes I have ever had are maintenance downtime that are announced close to a month ahead of them. When I have needed help with an adult script, they went out of their way to help me out even though I just had shared hosting accounts with them.
