Looks Like 3D Isn't Ready For PrimeTime Yet

Listening to the business news on CNN today.

They were talking about the forecast for electronics sales this Christmas (smart phones are going to rule)

They talked about television and said that 3D t.v. sales have been a complete flop over the last year and people just aren't interested in it. Sales are flying for the thinnest profile flat screens though.

I'm guessing that's reflected in the porn biz too. Seems like a year ago there was a lot of talk about how "big" 3D porn would be by now. Didn't happen.

My thought is they have to figure a way to get rid of the glasses for both television and online stuff. That's the only way it's ever gonna take off. This big uproar about 3D over the last year reminds me of when I was a little boy in the late 1960's and 3D was gonna be big. lol

Anyway...I think they could do it by projecting a "hologram" type image a little bit in front of the screen to take the place of the glasses. Or something similar to that.

Tell us more about being a little boy in the 60's.

3D TV's sell like crazy. I worked in retail for a bit and sold a shit ton of them. A buddy of mine works at BestBuy now and sells a ton.

When people go to the theater, they wear glasses. What's the big deal? The selling point is being able to bring the theater to your home, glasses or not. People love being able to buy a nice, big, 3d tv and sit in the comfort of their own home to watch tv, football and anything else. It can pay for itself...the tv that is. :)

I bought a 3D tv because I got one hell of a deal on it. I've never been a big 3d fan but it's still neat. Once my daughter is old enough to watch tv more than 5 minutes, I'll let her use it. I've got plenty of 3d movies that she'll love now too.

Ive looked at them in the store, wasnt too impressed. The times Ive gone to 3d movies, wearing the glasses gave me a headache.

Don't know...just know the sales figures nationwide were being shown and the analysts said it was very, very disappointing.

I took "disappointing" as being the opposite of "sell like crazy". heh-heh

Anyway, I don't know anybody who owns one personally. I'm thinking about it though now that COX cable here in Vegas has HBO & Showtime 3D channels.

I guess the industry numbers will speak for themselves after the holiday season.

I think one of the big issues is still the price points.

Sure the TV's themselves have come down (even quite a bit from the past few years) BUT the glasses are still HIGHLY overpriced and to fully enjoy your new toy you need to buy multiple pairs of glasses, so now you're almost right back to "full price"

as for online 3-D porn, it can and will be "big" IF and ONLY IF the people who are producing it are actually in it for the long run.

You made a great point about 3-D in the 60's and how people said "this is going to be BIG!!!" while it's not "BIG" per say you have to agree that it's LASTED 40+ years and 3-D porn has also been around since the 60's and it's lasted too.

as for the glasses, it's a necessary evil (at least for now) and people have been trained to wear the glasses, and the major motion pictures have helped to cement it even further, the real problem with the glasses is there is soooo many diff kinds, and most things take 1 type only

STILL a lot of work to be done, and bugs to get rid of before 3-D becomes like Cable TV was in the 80's, but I do strongly believe it will happen.... at some point

I have a 3D TV and I never use the 3D. Shit gives me a headache after like 20 minutes.

I have a rigged up 3d setup with immersion, I put on my goggles & pay illegal immigrants to fling Balkan yogurt at me from behind the screen during cumshots.

Shit is l33t.

I have a 3D TV, and I love it, but I don't watch it a lot. Once in a while we'll check out a movie. Seen Happy Feet 2 today at the Imax and all the kids loved the technology. It's here and in a BIG way. I'm sure like everything else it will evolve and we will NOT need glasses, but it is a NEAT treat for special effects in the mean time. I even got myself a brand new Sony 3D camcorder, just cuz it was FREE with my warranty and I love it!
