Korea building design 'similarity' sparks 9/11 anger

An apartment complex design in Seoul, South Korea, has attracted criticism for its similarity to the World Trade Center's final moments after the 9/11 attacks.

The towers, one with 54 floors and the other with 60, are designed by Dutch architects MVRDV and will be built at the entrance to Seoul's redeveloped Yongsan business district by 2016.

i actually think it is a great design. They haven't picked it yet i dont think. I would find it hard to believe they failed to notice the 9/11 similarity , but i don't think they should scratch it because of the similarity.

TBH when I first looked at the small pic of it, The first thing I thought of was the 9/11 attacks, but at the end of the day its up to Korea what they want to build in their own country

Yep your right.

But if someone in the US built a building that resembled something similar to an event in their history, they and most of the rest of the world would raise holy hell about it.

Must admit, it does look a bit fucked up...

A few days ago there was another thread about this.... but not about the anger it has sparked.

Strangely enough, I mentioned how from below, my partner & I thought it looked like an explosion had gone off in the middle of the buildings.... Now, looking again... wow, that's bad, it looks just like the scenes from the twin towers :(

It does look like the twin towers attack, but who cares? Does anyone really think a serious architect would try to make a resemblance to that event deliberately? When viewing it closer, it looks like a really cool idea, like something out of Bladerunner.

Agreed, it would be fucked up if it were being built on US soil or worse yet, an anti-American Middle Eastern country.

The small pic did look a bit deceiving but the larger pic clearly shows that the design is far different, very modern, almost Scandinavian.

so you are implying that a world super power, one that you say controls everything and everyone, is behind this residential building?....in South Korea?...and decided to have its shape resemble the building collapse that happened in the US over 10 years ago?

i've heard of slippery slopes but this is the equivalent of slipping off a steep hill and landing in a chuckee cheese ball pit in a room full of Danish poets singing the old grey mare she ain't what she used to be while scoring enough points on skiball to buy rainbow suspenders signed by Robin Williams...

I thought that picture was actually the twin towers.. Obviously it's what they were trying to emulate.

bloggerz 12-13-2011 03:54 PM

That's a pretty stupid looking and unsafe building :2 cents:
