Getting someone off of "Pristiq" (The new effexor)
 

My woman has been on 100mg daily since I've known her.. Along with 400mg wellbutrin.. We're pretty sure that the pristiq makes her jumpy and easily upset, but it has horrible withdrawl.

A couple of weeks ago or so she went down to 200mg wellbutrin without any noticeable effects .. maybe a slight drop in sex drive, which is okay, she is horny a little animal :winkwink:

So this week she runs out of pristiq.. we were going to pick it up, but overslept and that was friday. When she does not have that, the withdrawl makes her horrible to everyone around her, and being here would do more harm than good (not because of me) so I went out of town

But I read that pristiq is like effexor, very very similar, only it does not turn into as many byproducts? And that some people bridge off of it using prozac..

Usually she would have had night sweats (buckets, and buckets) and been just outright insane from withdrawl (you may have seen my long thread about last time when she went nuts and disappeared- it was because of missing her pristique)

This time she's been almost just fine. Some very very short and mild episodes of uncontrollable laughing, some dreams, but nothing not manageable.

I know she should not try to bridge off without gradually declining doses but I want her the fuck OFF the pristique.

Is it dangerous to allow her 10-20mg prozac for awhile to just get the fuck away from effexor? It has a 1 week half life, so, after the first few days I plan to give her a half of a prozac once a week for a month or two ..

She thinks that she may want to stay on prozac permanently now, though, not sure I like that. . .

I know a lot of you are good with this shit so I thought I would ask on here .. I appreciate those of you who have been helpful!!! A lot!!

Not sure at all how her thyroid figures into all of this .. but we've got more doctor appointments planned .. I have about ZERO faith in doctors right now .. her doc swears pristiq has no withdrawl, fucking BULL SHIT I went through the longest two weeks of my life dealing with her being in withdrawl and I have SEEN the sweat POURING off of her and the MANIA episodes she went through - If I had not found out on my own that prozac could help, we'd be mid nightmare from hell right now . . . If I had not arranged some for her, she would not even have had access to it .. etc ..

I mean fuck it I don't want to be one of these morons who thinks I can google my way through medical problems but if doctors are this dumb, I may need a new name tag, Dr. Fred at your service, bitches!! :winkwink:

she doesn't have a thyroid issue she's big boned.

i would never mess with any of those SSRIs or mood balancing meds.

everything that mess with your seratonin or crosses the BBB should not be taken.

its a disaster on your brain.

the only thing i would encourage as the back alley pharmacist that i am is a very low .25 mg zanax script just to take the edge off if she gets really wound up.

i am glad that i did not sip the koolaid many years ago and start on wellbutrin or anything. in the last 3 years i've exercised more, eaten better, drank lots more water, and way way less booze, and i feel better than ever.

try to get her off all that stuff. prescript drugs are worse than illegal drugs.

Yeah back when I was younger I had a doctor try me on Prozac, and then Paxil, and then Wellbutrin. They all made me act so weird and I would get soooo angry at NOTHING I would always lash out and I would have huge mood swings. I was worse off on SSRIs then when I was doing heroin! I stopped taking any SSRIs and I couldn't be happier.

I'm sure these medicines work for some people and can be really great but in my case they were horrible and only made me worse.

I absolutely agree about doctors giving people dangerous shit. These meds scare me to fucking death. My grandmother was on paxil for ten years and it was a nightmare straight from hell!! HELL!!!!!

My woman was not with me when she started all of this SHIT. And I don't want to mess with it, but, she can't go through the withdrawl and I can't stand to see it and everything. . The prozac was the only option and it's working thus far

Antidepressants anti psycohtics all of it I do not believe in. The doctor I went to gave me one, I told him it was wrong, I knew from research it was wrong, I "gave it a chance" one time and it nearly killed me. The effect was just outright awful.

She's not a large woman. I don't know where you keep getting that. She was up to 130 for awhile at the height of thyroid hell, she's at around 120 right now ..

that stuff is no joke. You just look at taking her dose down very very slow. Break apart her pills or caps in to smaller pieces. You should be looking at a 3 month slow down of those drugs, any fast then that and it will be a nightmare.

I know that you're supposed to step down very very slowly ... Not really sure if I can with the pills she takes.. some apparently have an enteric? coating and if you try to cut them down it will make it go into the blood all at once? Very bad?

In all seriousness, she should talk to a doctor. While I'm not a doctor, I AM on 100mg Pristiq. If I were to go off of it, I'd probably decrease my dosage to 50mg for a month. Maybe there's something herbal she can take after that.

Withdrawal from these drugs is a very serious issue. I have been up and down the road with several myself.

She's a few days off, came off from 100mg which is NOT a good idea(because she ran out).. ups and downs using 10mg of zac twice a day ... it DEFINITELY is night and day difference her withdrawl is 90% better than it would have been

Was using the zac because she ran out and had no choice but now that she is a few days in and pretty much okay FUCK IT may as well get her the HELL off of the pristiq once and for all... but don't assume you can bridge from 100 so easily with zac because she's also on Wellbutrin so god only knows if that is maybe helping? Who knows. Like you say we need a doc

I am not clear on splitting pristiq pills. I think some have an ?enteric? coating and if you try to split them you'll cause a rush dose all at once... bad bad.. If you very very gradually come down to a low dose of pristiq, I 100% recommend bridging with zac

Getting her in to a doctor ASAP, appointment made - this IS scary shit
