Any feedback o this lighting from my latest photo shoot?

Do you like this kind of lighting?

behind the scenes:

Behind the scenes pic is cool and decently done because it's just that, a behind the scenes pic. First pic is too overexposed for me. And in that first pic, i think it'd be better if the light was even from all directions instead of a hotspot caused by too much light hitting the right side of her head

The shadow on her boob isn't great either.

I would have to say the lighting in the behind the scenes photo is better and would have continued shooting from that angle as you get the more dramatic lighting on her face and body, not washing everything out

The 1st one hurt my eyes :)

2MuchMark 12-09-2011 11:12 PM

I like the first picture. It might look over exposed by some but sometimes I can see where lots of light looks great, and that is one of those photos.

I lucked out with this photo I took:

http://www.livecamnetwork.com/bbs-pi...camnetwork.jpg

I had my lights bouncing off of the backdrop but moved her to just the right place so a little of that light would hit her. I discovered it by accident and LOVED how it turned out.

I like it, but it does hurt my eyes.

It would be good for some purposes, but it lisa a little hot to me, possibly because of the stark white reflecting the light upward as well as from the rear sides. It leaves little shadow. The only noticeable shadow seems to be on top of the curves, which is unnatural and therefore uncomfortable.

Maybe it's just that it's overexposed though, and with less exposure the same lighting configuration would work.

The overall effect looks to me like it might work in an ad, but not for fapping to.

SmutHammer 12-09-2011 11:56 PM

I like it, and also like the "behind the scenes" thing. I wouldn't dare shoot all my content like this, but think it's a nice change once in a while.

djroof 12-10-2011 04:51 AM

too much light... btw the blonde is hot!

BIGTYMER 12-10-2011 04:58 AM

Dim the light a bit. :)

V_RocKs 12-10-2011 06:59 AM

not that great

iSpyCams 12-10-2011 07:56 AM

It's a good idea but its a tad overdone. My eyes keep trying to adjust. Dial it back about 15% and you should be fine.

The blonde is real hot!

TCLGirls 12-10-2011 05:45 PM

that's me with the ring flash :)

but I'm not sure which one I should buy. I've seen some with a defuser like yours, and I've seen others that are really narrow. Do you have a suggestion as to which I should use?

Yeah here's a shot I took today with the same Alien Bees ring flash and 30 inch diffuser. I like it personally, bit I need to get more practice.

too much light for the white girl, excellent lighting setup for darkies

If you are talking about porn, you will get the above criticisms about too much light etc etc, Porn is a very very conservative industry run by business men not artists.

They want the same picture / style over and over again. One little change and your breaking the rules.

These rules are unwritten, untested and utter bollocks. just read some of Paul Markhams comments on photography to see.

Your photograph is a good starting point. High Key photography is a well trodden path. I though the light from the left over did it. It would be good to see some close ups and interesting angles and compositions all done in the same high key. May be think of some very black elements to add contrast. look at how good her dark eyes shine.

The only rule is to look at the picture as if for the first time , through the eyes of a child, to read it fresh and for the first time. Without the cultural baggage of what is a "good" or "bad" picture. :2 cents:

Yes thats pretty cool... my only critique would be that the picture is too warm. I tend to prefer cool colours and less saturation when it comes to photos taken with that kind of light but thats just me.

How much did that lighting rig cost?

The ring light you mean? Got it for $200

Did some post processing on the same series...does this version work in your opinion?

For me personally, I don't think photography with this type of lighting is appropriate for shooting nudes. I prefer lighting that sets a mood that is sexy and erotic and not something that resembles a forensic lab. There is a reason people dim the lights or burn candles or build a fire. I can't imagine bringing a girl into a bedroom and turning on all the lights and tipping the lamp shades to direct the light before getting busy :upsidedow

It might be cool for someone that wants to see a nice bright clear shot of a naked girl but it does nothing to create a mood or stir feelings. For years Playboy set the bar for the kind of photography that I'm talking about. You would never see this type of lighting in a Playboy pictorial however it is very common in the fashion world.

The fundamental difference between Fashion and Glamour photography is the lighting. In Fashion the light is usually bright to highlight the clothes and in Glamour its more subdued to create mood and hide the model's flaws.

The bottom line is any photograph is a success if it came out the way you wanted it to.
A photograph becomes a commercial success if you can create it and sell it.

Yeah definitely :2 cents:

TCLgirls, I've been messing about with lighting & the av on the camera recently... Ended up putting the av back to zero & keeping the shutter speed fast. I think darker can be more sophisticated, like my avatar bro :thumbsup...

Here's the same photo as my avatar from a photo before with av up... it's a completely different photo & both photos inc.. the avatar are untouched on photo shop, just as I took them

Finally a subject you should actually know something about this and that's all you have?

What would you do differently?

ruff 12-15-2011 04:41 AM

Depends on the effect you are trying to achieve. This kind of lighting definitely has it's place, but too much is not interesting.

CaptainHowdy 12-15-2011 05:30 AM

I dig the ethereal look ...

Jay-Rock 12-15-2011 06:28 AM
