Introduction and Question, Mentors?

Hi GFY users,

Let me introduce myself, my name is Dan and I have always been very interested in the adult niche and so a few months ago I decided to give this a shot. :winkwink:

I have set up 3 sites and so far have made about $50 in income, which I'm very pleased with, but I have decided if I'm going to enter this niche properly and build a business then I think the best option would be for me to try and find a mentor.

So my question is, are there any GFY members that would be interested in offering guidance/mentoring?

PR_Glen 12-09-2011 11:43 AM

mentors are like those half bull half man things right?

scary

Hi Glen, thank you for the first post on my thread.

Well, I see a mentor as being someone that can help a new comer to the market and in exchange receive a friend/compensation/links?

CyberHustler 12-09-2011 11:49 AM

It's not "adult niche", it's "adult niches"... pick one (for now) and get to work!

just messing with you man ;)

listen to CyberHustler. Need to look at specific niches in this business to sell these days. Sign up to pimp roll and check out some of our sites. Hit me up for for specifics.

Hi CyberHustler,

Thank you, and I definitely agree - but at the moment I'm struggling to layout a plan of action. I do agree, multiple niches is definitely the way to go, at the moment my few sites are all over the place, all different niches.

The part where I'm unsure is should I try and set up 20 or 50 small blogs/sites or rather set up 5 sites and then focus on building them up to become authority sites? Basically I'm just looking to chat with someone and get a good plan in place, then once I have a plan of action in place then its up to me to site and build build build, which I'm actually excited to do. :thumbsup

It's not really a good ida to get all of your ideas from one person. Instead, take advantage of GFY and other boards and post public questions to the community. Not only will you get different people will give you different answers, but the community as a whole benefits from the answers and conversations they generate. You can then decide for yourself which answers and advice work for you to help you build your business.

Hi Mark, thank you for your input.

I do agree with what you saying, the truth is that I'm a little unsure of where I am at the moment and so the amount of questions might be over whelming. Getting all my ideas from one person could be a disadvantage, good point - but getting advice from someone who is actually succeeding in the business would be awesome.

Great points, thank you :thumbsup

I solved same problem about month ago. I was used to run more sites and dedict each one to one or two sponsors years ago. But decided i cannot depend on limited number of sponsors any more, because there are many cheaters and thieves, check the list at

http://www.signbucks.com/news/blacklist

and much more programs are just going down because of bad marketing, owner suddenly decide to retrieve, robbered by fraudsters etc. I lost $700 because of such crashes just in November.

If you run many sites, especially blogs, you need to rewrite all your posts and remove bad links. 3 days work for each site i guess, imagine you run 20.

So i decided to take care on just one site but use as many sponsors as possible.

Yes, it is also riscy: Sites idea may fail, people would not like it. Because of many sponsors i will need much time to reach minimum, more of them will go down and i loose more money.

Future will show me if my plan was good or bad :-)

Hi Peter, thank you for your post. I must agree that I would like to stick with only a few sponsors, sorry to hear about you getting burned.

Good luck with your authority site, that does seem like a good way to get established.

Jakez 12-09-2011 05:06 PM

Run many blogs and choose a few to be your "main" ones, use the rest of the little ones for traffic and some link juice to get your main blogs ranking in search engines. I don't run any blogs but I'm pretty sure that's the basics.

Welcome Dan, and good first post! :thumbsup

As others have said, seek answers from a variety of sources. Some of the adult resource boards have good tutorials too, which are great if you are self-motivated.

Learn how to read stats, and really just emulate the best of what you like, and always keep thinking about new or innovative ways to approach the business (there is way too much cookie cutter clutter on the net).

Depending on where you are located, make a plan to visit one of the large adult conferences. X-Biz and AVN are both having big shows in January, taking place in LA and Las Vegas respectively. When you go, don't be shy. If you ask questions, you will find that most people are willing to help, since they remember that this is how they got started too.

So once again, welcome Dan, now :321GFY

Oh yeah, nice avatar, and be sure to check out the GFY Educational Series:

Thanks Jakez, that is sort of how I have been setting out so far - except I don't have any "main" blogs planned, might be something I should look into.

Hi ADG, thank you for the welcome - this is without a doubt an awesome place to network and stay in contact with the industry. Sadly I'm a little to far away from any of the adult convention locations, but that's one of my goals - to build up an income in this market and one day reward myself by attending X-Biz or AVN (its a very motivating goal :thumbsup).

I have been reading the GFY Educational Series and there is some excellent information there, great place to start and also a great place to pick up pointers.

I do understand that its going to take long hours, research and time to build up a portfolio and reach my income goals and I'm no stranger to hard work, so that's not a problem. What I'm basically looking to do is just network with someone in the market in order to come up with a plan of action, once I have a plan of action in place then its all up to me to get to work, and I'm ready to do that.

My best site (the site that has made the $50) got 10,095 unique visitors in Nov, and made the $50 with 2 sign ups. Its just a single page site.

My plan is to network, put a plan of action in place and then do the work that's require. I'm basically just looking for some guidance, that way I will be able to build up a business without making unnecessary mistakes etc.

How do you write blogs? One takes me about 10 minutes to get online after WP is installed using RSS and about 30 minutes for a full blown handwritten blog, with a lot of future posts and organization with xls files.

Also, if you need to back up your blogs quickly, just export the XMLs to a folder once in a while to import to another host if you ever have to :thumbsup

CurrentlySober 12-31-2011 04:04 AM

Dan. Where abouts in the world are you based?

Or use a plugin to sync it in dropbox.

Congrats on the hugely professional reply.. If you said "I'm in LA" I could have hooked you up... Had you said, 'I'm in Dayton, Ohio...' I could have hooked you up.... Had you said 'I'm in the UK', I could have turned up at your house and vandalised your car with poo...

But even a vague location would have been good...

Never mind - I'M out! - Good luck, and " I hope you find whatever it is that you are looking for..." xxx

I'm just messing with you, and sadly I'm not even close to any of those places. I'm here to work hard, build a business and make money in the porn industry.

I like your "I'M out!" quote - have you been watching the series Dragons Den?

On a serious note, if you looking to network then I would be more than appreciative, please add me on ICQ or give me your email address. Thanks

Point taken, but heres the deal... (AND I AM NOT BEING A CUNT...)

If you want help, there are many people whom would give it... But you gotta give a bit in return, you know? Like basic 'General' location etc...

Sure plenty of people will 'help' in an 'online only' capacity, with lots of REF codes thrown in for good measure etc... But people like myself, whom would genuinely help and guide FOR NO PERSONaL GAIN... Wont want to play silly buggers...

But really, - No disrespect - If you cant even give a 'general' - 'vague' location... Why should people help you with stuff?

CurrentlySober 12-31-2011 05:06 AM

Just to add a :2 cents: re the location issue...

If you are in a '3rd world' country - Then your English is extremely good, and shouldn't be an issue... However, anyone helping you, is entitled to know that...

But i'll shut the fuck up now!

Good luck - Seriously ! :thumbsup

Fair enough, I live in Kwazulu Natal, South Africa.

I don't mind sharing where I live, I just don't want to be judged in that respect. I'm currently a student who really enjoys working online and the porn market fascinates me. For the past year I have been promoting dating sites, and so the porn niche seemed like the logical next step - so here I am. :winkwink:
