Laughed at the cheesy Pawn Stars name when it first came out, figured they would only get a few viewers thinking they said "porn stars up next". But that show is actually pretty cool and interesting imo. I watch it on Netflix.

It can be interesting but most of the show is set up. In some cases they ask people outside if they want to sell an item given to them.

And yes naming it pawn stars is just sad.

it got horrible on german tv as well - "scripted reality" with "amateur" actors - it makes me want to scream at my TV. thats why i nowadays watch mostly documentaries or political talkshows

It's funny, some of my snootier friends used to brag about only watching the History Channel....now there is crap like this on the channel and they don't brag so much...

What's worse is people that don't have enough sense to know when "reality" situations are faked.

What is interesting is that TruTV basically takes all the History channel and A&E shows like Pawn Stars and Storage Wars and makes cheesy clearly fake knock-offs of them. I was watching their storage one the other night while sipping some whiskey and was laughing my ass off. Have bought many abandoned storage units over the years I can spot a fake from a mile away. Over two episodes they opened up and auctioned off about 8 or 9 units. all of them were clean, well organized and not one piece of garbage to be seen. It was so fake it was funny.

While I understand Pawn Stars is essentially a set up, it's still done in an interesting way.

As for who to blame? Blame "Cops" that was the very first successful "reality show" and the others followed suite. I think History or Discovery (which ever it airs on) Deadliest Catch was the first run away hit for them.

I can't think of anything prior to it on that network and once it became a hit they started turning both the Discovery Channel & History Channel into Redneck Reality TV.

Most of all, I hate those "Hosewives of.... " show. Yes, I left out the "u" on purpose.

It's the women who draw in viewers. Every single reality show has one woman. Do a google search on them. There's forums dedicated to these women. It's sick.

"Reality" tv shows are around 10X cheaper to produce per episode than normal tv shows.

So bummed to find out Operation Repo was fake, had to stop watching it.

I got rid of cable tv completely some time last year. Haven't actually watched tv in the last 2 years so I didn't see the point of keeping cable tv in my bundle. At the time my cable company said it was cheaper to have everything bundled. What a load of bullshit. haha

Watch the history 2 channel if you want to avoid the reality type shows.
