55,367 .xxx domain names registered in first 24 hours
http://domainnamewire.com/2011/12/07...irst-24-hours/
I wonder between sunrise and the launch (totaling 159,351 domains) how many domains were taken/blocked by mainstream companies protecting their brands. |
What's the deal in the comments they are talking about tokens to activate and 60 day holds? You can't even go online for 2 months or what?

Someone just made a lot of money...

I do try to answer questions, and I'm sure I miss some just because this forum moves so fast. My email is always available for anyone not wanting to do the board thing - or if I miss something. |

On top of that a lot of the ones I hear people talking about were registered HOURS after it opened. And the worst part is some of the ones were in niches that Very FEW people use or are interested in. Might was well admit it. You guys will take them and then turn around in a week or a bit more and offer them back at a MUCH higher rate. |
trying to register stuartlawleyisadickbag.xxx and it doesn't seem to be going through...
|
I'll probably register 500 tonight...jk. I guess the question is really how useful will these domains really be? Will they outrank the .coms eventually with regards to SEO? Will they become the only extension legally able to contain adult content? Would be nice if someone had a crystal ball I could take a look into. If they do please let me know... :1orglaugh

And no, we're not 'taking back' domains. If people truly feel that there is an issue - they are welcome to email me and I will happily look into it. |

.co had over 200,000 registrations in the first 16 hours. Even at the cheaper registry fee ($20 a year) .co still made more money in day one than ICM Registry. And even the new Russian cctld registered 200,000 domains in its first 6 hours when it launched in November 2010, and hit 800,000 by April 2011. If .xxx's disappointing numbers continue, Lawley will soon have to sell his race boat.
