The U.S. has handed over

...Camp Victory to Iraq. All U.S. troops are supposed to be out of Iraq by the end of the month...ending the occupation.

Troops out and filled with more mercenaries, hired by the government, to do the dirty work we're not supposed to be doing. So lets raise our glasses to the new atrocities that will be committed and never mentioned in the media.

Meanwhile, Iran and Syria are looking pretty good.

If there are any mercenaries in significant numbers it would be mercenaries hired by the government of Iraq.

I was on that map once, over 30 years ago, you would think we'd be done by now?

They already have a new assignment...return to their home bases and do what peace time soldiers do...which is to train...train and train...until they are needed to deploy again.

Rochard 12-02-2011 01:24 PM

I disagree with this. This is not a war, not an occupation; It's more of nation building. The amount of casualties - while tragic - is limited; More US Marines die in the US on the back of crotch rockets than die in Iraq.

Sixty years after WWII we are still in Germany and still in Japan. It has nothing to do with Iraq or even Afghanistan, but instead sends a message to the rest of the world - if we come knocking on your door, we'll be there sixty years later. We need to send a message that says "We won't leave".

Just my two cents.

Paul Markham 12-02-2011 01:24 PM

With all this surrounding you would you want a deterrent?

The only problem with that map is that the Americans will be fighting Iran and people inside every one of those countries simultaneously, as we have been while fighting in Iraq.

US = Israel

Thats what they want you to think, I believe it's more about keeping a war going and for big corporations to profit from them and using these "wars" to limit our freedoms

The US has quite a bit of oil, and we had cars in the 80's that got 50 mpg that were mass produced.

Define "plenty" and your source of information. The U.S. wanted to keep troops in Iraq but Iraq said no...thus it is not logical that they are going to say yes to having tens of thousands of U.S. controlled mercs in their country.

Shameful calling it an occupation... Lost firends over there. I would like to think they didn't die and I mean plural they didn't die for nothing. Freedom for Iraqis; freedom to goto school for woman. Less rapes; i'm infact shamed my government didn't see the value in helping keep the peace and giving them time to rebuild and stabilize.

Afganistan is way worse than Iraq instead of three factions there is over 100+

Thank you to all that served; and all the families that lived in fear of losing loved ones.

The "war" was won in 24 days. In 24 days the Iraqi military had been defeated and the government overthrown...thus the end of the "war" and the beginning of the occupation/rebuilding. The insurgency extended the occupation and hampered the rebuilding of Iraq. The insurgents are still active but in greatly reduced numbers and Iraq's infrastructure leaves alot to be desired...but apparently the Iraqi government thinks they can handle it from this point on. I personally do not think they can but so be it. If I had been the "decider" I would have began withdrawing the troops after the first 24 days...and then rinse and repeat if it became necessary to do so.

If the US only spent 10% of what it spends on killing people on being friends with them, the world would be a safer place and America a lot richer.

Just on off tangent thought.

There's a great film detailing how the arms to the Mujaheddin were stepped up over the years and the moment the Russians left. Afghanistan was left to rot and descend into a place the Taliban could take over and Al Qaeda could build a base in. Cost countless billions and thousands of lives to try to put that mistake right.

Someone help me out with the name of the film.
