Clips4Sale Acquiring 30 .XXX Sites in $700K Deal
Clips4Sale has signed up for 30 .XXX properties in an all-cash $700,000 transaction revealed Thursday.
The deal includes one .XXX domain at $300,000 and two others for over $80,000 each, ICM Registry said in a statement. "The new owners plan to reveal the names purchased when the sites launch early next year," according to a release. The video clip site, based in the U.K., allows producers and sellers to offer clips, images and videos for sale. A spokesperson for Clips4Sale said the company's plan is to increase market share. ?The opportunity to acquire highly visible domain names that specifically relate to our business was an obvious choice," the spokesman said in a statement. "These 30 new domains will enable us to be predominant in certain niches within .XXX as well as provide additional avenues to promote our producers and their content to a new audience.? http://www.xbiz.com/news/141626 |
Paul Raymond to Rebrand Internet Properties With .XXX
ICM Registry today announced that London-based adult producer Paul Raymond, will rebrand its core brand websites and online dating properties with the .XXX domain extension by Feb. 1.
ICM said this marks the largest single migration of an adult brand to the .XXX top level domain to date. ?We believe the future of adult entertainment online is in the .xxx top level domain,? said Adam Osborn, head of digital at Paul Raymond Publications. ?We see a huge benefit in the adult community having an online space dedicated to our content.? The web titles included in the migration include key properties Paulraymond.xxx and PrpVOD.xxx. The dating sites that will migrate are: Razzledating.xxx, Mensworlddating.xxx, Menonlydating.xxx, Escortdating.xxx, Adultsportdating.xxx, Clubdating.xxx, Fantasydating.xxx, Mayfairdating.xxx and Paulraymonddating.xxx. ?This demonstrates that the leading brands in adult entertainment understand the tremendous value the new .xxx domain offers,? said Steve Winyard, vice president Europe for ICM Registry. ?Paul Raymond is a great brand and an ideal partner for .xxx.? ICM noted that it is also a premium sponsor for this year?s Paul Raymond Winter Wonderland party on Dec. 1. The annual bash draws an international crowd of top adult performers and industry leaders. Several of the .XXX spokesmodels will be in attendance to promote the brand and the Adult Performer Program designed to protect performers from cyber squatters. http://www.xbiz.com/news/141612 |

Interesting it seems a lot of non traditional adult web companies are hopping on the .xxx bandwagon. I get the feeling they are treating it like a second chance at the web (especially paul raymond). Like they missed out on Internets 1.0 20 years ago and think this will be their chance to strike it big.
|
One bad thing is both of those get almost all their traffic offline. Looks like there is going to be a big push that adult is .xxx from magazines, radio ads etc. They are probably really easy prey for Stuart's sales pitch. I'll be honest they gave me the full pitch and they are pretty good at it. Anybody that doesn't really know the web will be sold.
|
hopefully they lose a good number of affiliates by doing this.
|
Let's see how this plays out a year from now. Tubes and .xxx are apples and oranges.
Thankfully, I don't do biz with Clips4sale. Less hassle on removing links. |

Is there some alternative to clips4sale?

That's the pitch. You are Paul Raymond and desperate for anything to bring back your business he probably thinks this will turn it around and at the very least is worth a shot. |

If you are clips4sale it was a sweetheart deal. Let's announce a big sale of clips.xxx and in turn we will throw you guys a few preferential domains to make it worthwhile. It was all a negotiation. Clips4sale got substantial value in domains, in their opinion, in exchange for whatever $$$ were exchanged (who knows if it was really 700k). Then dot xxx gets pushed on radio ads on stern etc Clips.xxx the awareness and publicity of it makes it a win win. If I were clips4sale I would have asked for clips.xxx for free based on that publicity alone.

^ that I think .xxx will survive like any other TLD and people will brand themselves with it.. but it won't take over .com nor will .com adult sites ever be forced to migrate. |

In the phone conversations I had with them I was impressed. I wasn't sold and wasn't going to join them but I was impressed. Before we sold (ie when i was still relevant) I had a number of big programs email me asking what I was going to do about .xxx. I told them all I wasn't getting on board and discussed why. Many of them were on the fence or leaning towards getting on board after their talks with them. I'm sure many of the older programs/sites that don't spend time on forums have secured their .xxx domains. |
For about how much would clips.com sell?
|
Well, I'm familiar with Paul Raymond and the company that used to handle their web properties.
Yes, somebody found the right prey to make a sale. |
hotmovies/A1 owns clips.com, they are unrelated to clips4sale.
btw c4s sales have been beyond low for the past 2 months, i brought this up before |
Back of my mind I am thinking Paul Raymond may have been given the domains free (I suspect).
I suspect some big names will not only get free .xxx, but may even be paid to use them. |

If embracing the .xxx suffix had any value or benefit to the adult biz, Manwin and other the big fish would have already jumped on it. The .xxx suffix is bad for business, bottom line. If your concerned about cybersquating right now with all this hype, don't wast your money.

At that price should have gone for GeoCities

but i do not think the aim is sell to the porn biz, its to sell to non porn by making them fear that people will buy there domain and put porn on it. it reminds me of the firm selling gas masks to japanease as people live in fear, so you see a lot of people in the city with them on. fear sells fear sells more than sex. it was said sex sells. but fear is a better selling tool. |

I find it bizare too that you build up a .com site then move everything to .xxx

do you know any .mobi sites? |
Non porn sites should not care.
a .com is these days a sort of host site, with links to facebook, twitter and so on. also we have phone aps. the importance on a domain name gets less each year rather than more. a few years ago it was presumed that if you got a .com it would gain value year after year, but a lot of people now just ONLY use facebook. walk around and all you see is people on mobile phones on facebook. |
