Affordable places to retire .... opinions.

Those of you that travel to or live in these areas, are the prices right? Or are these for dumps in the wrong part of town. I can live in Miami cheap also ... if I want to live in a crap house and eat poorly.

I'm starting to feel restless again ... My language skills suck so english is a must.

Fort Lauderdale is cheaper than Miami. And it's a 35 minute drive to South Beach. I've only been once since moving. Was originally set on Miami but I feel like I made the right choice. Everything one needs is here.

As Yahoo suggests, Chiang Mai, Thailand. Lots of people speak English there.

Chiang Mai is very nice. I could retire there with NO problems whatsoever. One of the best places in all of Thailand.

OK well maybe I'd visit but I wouldn't live there, certainly not retire.

It's a totally different experience than Bangkok or Phuket. It's slower, in the mountains, 100s of ancient temples everywhere, very friendly locals, 5 or 6 universities (hot girls everywhere), dirt cheap, and lots of people speak English.

It's a very charming place.

You'd do just fine. Lots of people retire there who don't speak the language. You'll learn some as you go. Lots of Thais there speak English. Maybe the largest amount of English speakers I've come across in Thailand.

Very inexpensive housing ..... And most are furnished as well. I imagine with temperatures in the 60 - 80 range the utilities are low as well.
