server tech question---how to verify hardware specs?
 

hi-

this might be a dumb question, but:

is there a way to verify the hardware data of your server by ftp or telnet? i'm talking about dedicated boxes.

ie.

avail HD space
processor(s) specs
RAM

etc.

if possible pls advise.

On linux:

df -h (hard disk)
free (RAM)
cat /proc/cpuinfo (processor, don't believe it if you're on a P4 Xeon system w/ hyperthreading though. ;)

for processor: dmesg | grep cpu

I know on freebsd you can check it in logs/messages

But it wont put it in User Friendly Terms
