Anyone played "The Sims Online"?

What do you think? Good, bad, ugly? .. and why?

My 8 year old son was telling me something about that.
I'll have to check it out to make sure it is something I can allow him to play. I haven't let him yet.

Ok, I'm asking because I'm interested in what kinds of non-regulated social systems will emerge in such an environment.

From what I read, there is a lot of chaos at the start. Experienced players can entice novices to move in with them, take their cash and then evict them. Roommates can redesign the house when their other roommates are not online - maybe to their dismay.

Will informal government-like systems emerge or will regulations only appear top-down?

My 12 year old niece plays that all the time and she loves that.

Check the LA Times story on this.... apparently its a big let down for Electronic Arts.

I never played any sim game, but when the 'sims online multiplayer test' came out, i thought, 'lets try'.

After DLing 400+MB, installing, I thought this was the dumbest fucking game ever created. You have to be a real loser IMO to play a game like that, or have absolutely no fucking social life. Not only that, the graphics were horrible. I couldnt even change the rez from 800x600!

That game sucks.

I agree, I tried it out when the online beta came out....it was the most boring thing in the world.....it's not a game, it's an IRC chat with 3D avatars =)

It is the same as the normal sims for me in the affect that it was super fun and interesting for about 1 week and then I coudln't be bothered to load it up..
IT just gets SO tedious, even when I had it running in one monitor and I worked in the other..
just monotonous and dull.. but then again the offline version was the best selling game of all time so hey somebody's gotta like it

I played in the beta, I liked it but never as much as the offline version. Plus the speed and disconnects were quite an issue when I played..

Your out of your mind, The Sims is like fucking crack man!!!

I used to be hooked on it for a LONG ass time, then i moved to motor city online and made ALOT of money selling the game cash on ebay, lol
