Buy.XXX advertising on a porn tube site with malware warnings

IRONY!

I was looking for stolen videos on a tube site that popped a page to buy .XXX domains ... the tube site itself gave me a malware warning and as the buy.xxx popunder was trying to load Chrome crashed.

Great marketing campaign.

Why is ICM advertising to surfers anyway? Do they want them to buy theirname.xxx? I thought .XXX was for industry only?

alias 11-25-2011 07:13 PM

Total clusterfuck, thanks for the report. I can't say I am surprised, everyone is against .xxx at this point so they are rather desperate.

porno jew 11-25-2011 07:19 PM

they had ads for surfers as well. like the shitty ads by the dude from vice mag.

I could understand some ads like "you can trust .xxx sites," but there is nothing consumer oriented at buy.xxx

As if surfers that aren't paying for porn would somehow be willing to waste a lot of money on a .xxx domain that soon will be blocked in several countries and might not even stay up in the future if Manwin and digitalplayground win that lawsuit.

Selling .xxx domains to surfers that aren't even willing to pay for porn. Brilliant move ICM :1orglaugh

MrCain 11-25-2011 08:02 PM

First they hired a coke addict to spam this board, next they bought a boat and now they are advertising on a malware site. If dotxxx domains had any value, those domains would sell themselves and ICM Registry would not need to resort to this kind of desperate advertising measures.

Buying popunders on high traffic tube sites can get you to 500k visitors real quick.

I just love that they're advertising on a site that gives me mcafee warnings when they've chosen mcafee as a partner.

sounds like they had a mainstream media campaign? no idea.

looking at twitter seems like they are running tv ads.

Right, but think it through ... how do you inflate your numbers from your traditional media campaign? You concurrently run popunder advertising and then when somebody asks, you say "we had 500k visitors from our media campaign" when in reality you could have easily artificially inflated it to make it appear as if there is a demand that isn't actually there.

Edit: I'm going back to that one article you posted about ICM boasting 500k visitors from their media blitz.

Bullshit.

.XXX is going to protect us from malware, viruses, cyber crime, piracy, and child porn.

I was watching 'Gold Rush' on The Discovery Channel last night.

It boasts the highest ratings (most viewers) of any show on 'cable' television (I'm watching via satellite).

Buy.XXX ran a commercial.

They're not just advertising on shady tubes.

Except for phone sex lines, Adam & Eve and a sham campaign for a certain program, I've never seen any other "adult" companies advertise on television...

yes the point i was trying to make. just googling around it was obvious they were running a mainstream tv ad campaign. and that is going to send a bunch of fresh eyeballs.

XXX launches national TV campaign and www.Buy.xxx

.XXX registry ICM Registry has launched a five week national TV ad campaign to promote the new domain name option.
The ads will start running this week and feature Gavin and his assistants, who go on quests to find out who is buying .xxx domain names. You can see one of the ad spots here. (Update: here’s a link to more commercials.)

I got your point, too. I am just wondering if they're padding any numbers. TV advertising is primarily branding advertising. It would take tens of millions of people watching a commercial to get 500k bothering to enter a URL.

Sounds like ICM fits in perfectly with the adult biz after all. I guess next they'll start their own tube site.
