Here's what happens when you fry a frozen turkey
I know you've seen it before, but this video feeds the pyromaniac in me.
unreal how many people can't understand that you can't put ice in hot oil.
That was cool :thumbsup
riveting tail chap.
I call BULLSHIT !!!!!! the way he put the turkey in to begin with, is what's causing the flames, probably overfilled the oil just to make a point.
Good thing he didnt tip the pot with the pole trying to put the turkey in. The oil is spilling out all over,is causing the fire. I have fried plenty of turkeys, to see that it's all contrived. Not that I would ever fry a frozen one.:2 cents: |
this one looks more dramatic imo ...
That's called searing the meat. No problem.
. |
Fresh turkey is better anyway.

couldnt eat more turkey
Reminds me of this time I was drunk and tried to fry frozen shrimp in oil. That shit immediately caught on fire and flames hit the ceiling. Scared the shit out of me.
i'd still eat it :)

Reminds me of me of the great turkey blaze of 1994. Actually cooks it faster that way.
maybe that turkey was mostly just wet, and not entirely frozen?....the energy released would have been much greater...n'est pa?

Frying looks very dangerous anyways

Agreed the oil causes the fire. Let's consider what causes the oil to spew out. Let's say there is a total of only one cubic inch of ice crystals on the surface of the turkey. When that very thin layer of ice crystals turns to steam bubbles due to the hot oil, it expands to 1600 cubic inches. 1600 cubic inches is seven gallons of steam bubbles suddenly appearing in the oil. That extra seven gallons causes it to overflow. |
Water + Oil = bad ! We had Deep Fried Turkey ... thank fully our bird was fully defrosted!
Btw to get seven gallons of instant steam bubbles requires that a layer of ice averaging only 0.003 inches thick boil off from the turkey's 300 square inches of surface area. In other words, the math says that even an invisibly thin layer of ice produces a shitload of steam bubbles in a hurry, and that you should really dry off the turkey as well.

Beautiful fireworks for new years!

I have...read Raymor's post. Any time you put anything in the deepfryer, the level rises and it starts to boil frantically. Why do you think that is? And thats just small bits, not a big wet, cold turkey. |
lets eat now ... lol
well the turkey itself is displacing the oil as well..it is best to measure the oil level first before you heat up and dump a turkey in.
i defrost my turkey, and immerse it in water, inside the deep frying pot. I then know how much oil i need to put in the pot to cover the turkey. Dry your turkey off before deep frying. |
Be sure to fry the frozen turkey in your Garage. It tastes way better that way
interesting if true, same as burning gas on water, it will just spree if you try to put more water :)
lol... wtf???
