Yesterday my first generation, 3.5 years old MacBook Air had a small problem so I just called support and asked them how to fix this. The support lady was nice and asked me some questions about what happened.
Long story short i can bring the Air to a support dealer and they will replace the screen for a new one for free.

Do you get this service with your non Apple products too?

I have a 6 year old Dell laptop that has never broken, ergo I have never needed support so that question is hard for me to answer. I do know that I wouldn't be too happy if my laptop broke like that though. It looks pretty fragile.

Seriously at the same price point as the Macbook I can get TWO similarly configured Thinkpads. If I broke one I could just power on the other one.
Do let us know if they actually replace anything at the store, though. I know they charge $400 for 2GB of replacement RAM so I don't want to know how much this screen is going to end up costing you.

I always wonder why it bothers Apple fanbosy so much that people don't like their overprices, overhyped, overhipped products?

They have some nice products but don't pretend it's the be all and end all.

Is it because deep down on some fundamental level they know they've not used their brain but rather listened to their influable heart but want to justify this?

well, i brought my 2.5 year old 17" Macbook Pro with a non-working display and they blew me off and wanted $1000 for a new display

i showed them the middle finger and bought a Toshiba for the same money

Next time you should call their helpdesk in Ireland, maybe you still can do it. I have no idea how general support is in Eastern Europe but here in Holland they ain't very difficult.

that was through Gravis in Germany - their biggest distributer there. hardly Eastern Europe.

As I said, let is know if they actually do that. On a mac server we had, for just a couple of replacement drive trays they wanted several hundred dollars. We bought a complete server for that money from another company. I'm glad we did because soon after the Mac refused to boot.

never buy memory or drives directly from them.. its very easy to install

Apple Iphone support is crap. I had a new phone shipped to me, it was broken, they asked me to ship is back and they would send me a replacement. They sent by back a refurb phone that also didn't work. I had to get a 3rd phone which does work, but its a refurb. So I paid full price for a refurbished phone. BULLSHIT

Same here. My dell laptop is about 4.5 years old with no issues. Good support doesn't make a product good. A good product does. Not saying dell iis the greatest. But atleast it did not break. And everyone knows that all macbook 15 inchers needed a battery replacement after 2 years. I had 5 friends with the same laptop where the batteries basically exploded. I don't know why people don't realize these days macs are built with the same hardware as PC's. Just the OS is different. All of the people who believe somehow macs are better considering they have the same hardware, less available software. You have fallen into a great marketing ploy. Face the facts, there are no facts to prove mac is better. You have been sold. That is it. If you use the lame excuse about getting virus' and blue screens. The reason why you had that in windowd is because you are a shitty computer user and you should probably go take some classes on how to use a PC, or maybe a lesson in common sense to know what emails and files to open, and what not too.

With the money you would have saved by not buying a Mac, you could now go out and buy a brand-new laptop with that money that would have much better specs. "Free" screen or updated hardware... I don't have to think too much about that one.

You're lucky, I know some guys at the helpdesk from Apple and they usually tell people to go fuck themselves or pay ridiculous amounts to repair the goods. Most people working there get so tired of their job and people bitching at them that they pretty much all quit after 6 months.
