An ADDICT who has become ADDICTED to an ADDICTIVE substance did so by using, thus ADDICTING himself to it.

The dictionary reports which utterances are being used often enough to be considered 'generally accepted' and nothing more than that. To have the dictionary editiors deciding what 'can be' allowed to be a word and what can not would give them far too much power.Comment
