Its a sad day - our pet has a big chance of dying within 24 hrs
 

My partner just found our pet in his cage. Really sick, could barely lift his little head and when he tried to walk his back legs couldnt move.

I rushed him to the vet, where he got 4 shots of medicine and 1 with a painkiller.

Got a disease that kills 80% of the time.

Im babysitting him right now all through the night. Handfeeding and giving hom water and medicines.

Its "just" a guinea pig, but damn me i get emotional just thinking he will be gone in 24 hrs. A grown man, but when it comes to my pets or animals in general im tearing up straight away.

The upcoming hours he should either regain strength and show he is improving in health. If not and not dead before the morning comes, i will have to put him to sleep. That would break my heart.

One of my exgf had a black dwarf rabbit that her exbf gave her and we had to run to the emergency vet at like 9 pm and basically told us 50/50 shot. I sat up and force fed some pills and fed it pineapple juice as it had some hair balls I guess. Expected it dead in the morning but pulled through. 6 months later after we broke up went back for a booty call and ex had the rabbit in the cold ass garage instead of the house should have taken it from the dumb bitch but their urine smells like bleach and had a roommate at the time so wasn't sure how that would fly. I had to put two of my gf's animals down last year due to cancer and kidney failure. I helped raise them and it was tough for us to do but they were at the point that they could no longer live comfortably. For what it's worth, if you are forced to put it to sleep, from my experiences, it's pretty quick and painless.

If you have never had to put an animal to sleep before, check out last minutes with oden on vimeo or youtube. I stumbled across it before we came to that point with the first pet and I feel it helped me prepare for it.

I agree that's sad....

We have a rabbit that I thought was going to die. It was really bad at one point that I almost did him in myself to put the little guy out of his misery. But a combination of a specific kind of plain yogurt, pineapple juice, and the critical care alfalfa formula, and water all given on a consistent basis is what turned things around. Lots of force feeding required.
