Domain prices are going up again...

Godaddy Statement

IMPORTANT NOTICE: On January 15, 2012, Verisign® will increase prices for .COM and .NET domains. Beat the increase. Renew now for multiple years and save BIG!?

Any other registers talking about this?

Kelli58 11-13-2011 12:30 AM

Still not even remotely as much as the reg fee on those .xxx

Verisign are permitted by contract to increase prices by a certain percentage each year. It's happened every year AFAIK since they were in control. They'd be mad not to take that opportunity.

its good to know ... i think its time for new domains and renew the old timers

The price of a domain isn't going to effect anyone except the sellers. If you can't afford it. Shut the door behind you when you leave.

And those with an addiction :(

We really don't need these threads every year. Verisign has the right (approved by ICAAN) to increase their prices each year by 10%.

I believe two years ago they announced there would be an annual increase for three years at least. I'm not sure how far it goes out, but this is more of a reminder than actual news.

Not sure about every year, when I started buying domains they were $35 a pop from Network Solutions, and then they were purchased buy Verisign and a whole slew of discount registers got in the game.

Buy keeping the domain prices low you keep the little guy in the game, if there expensive corporations will take more control and of course make more money. It's basically the same as with a small mom and pop shop that can no longer afford the rent hike. Then some large chain store moves in.

It just seems the timing of corporations to raise prices in a world wide recession is foolish, and everything has gone up in the last 3 years.

Happens at the same time every year my friend, and will keep happening. It sucks, but if you were running a biz that let you put up wholesale prices by 10% a year, wouldn't you do it?
