I won't put money on it, but I think they'll let him finish out the season. I, in no way support him (see my posts in the other Paterno thread), but you don't see what it's like here in central PA. A good chunk of the students and alum from PSU, along with a lot of PSU football fans here, are viewing this thing with blinders on. They think JoePa is a football god and can do no wrong, and they are ready to lynch anyone who talks negative about him. If the PSU board fires Paterno before the end of the season, I wouldn't be surprised to see riots on campus. They have 3 more games, plus any bowl game they make. They'll let Paterno finish the season, then fade away over the summer and avoid any more conflict.

I disagree with the whole thing, but that's the way it will go down.

Also, I think more will come out in the investigations, including more details of a cover-up, and I wouldn't be surprised to see Paterno face some charges. But they won't charge him until the season (and probably the college term) is over and all the students are away from Happy Valley.

Wrong. He decided on his own to let himself play out the season. The Penn State Administration wasn't even notified before he released that statement to the press.

They have never said he could play another game.

He will never set foot on that field as a coach again, it would be a disgraceful circus to let the bastard coach again - Penn State would go down in history as being an accomplice to the brutal ass rape of 10 year old kids if they let him coach again. He's DONE - mark my words. Watch for him to be fired this week.

Dude, they are forming a committee to investigate the whole thing, but they aren't forming it until their normal meeting this FRIDAY. If the committee isn't even forming until Friday, I highly doubt they will kick him to the curb before Saturday's game. Also, you don't see the blind support he has from masses of people here. I live in central PA, and I am dumbfounded by the support he's receiving. But, it's due to that support that the board won't force him out before the end of the season. Had he not decided to announce his retirement, things may have gone differently. But since he is removing himself from the position (albeit entirely too late), the board won't do anything with his coaching position, unless the AG charges Paterno with something in the coming days/weeks, which I highly doubt.

Your points are well taken. And yes I have seen the masses of kids marching in support of a Child Rape Conspirator that they love.

Have you read the Grand Jury report that explains how Paterno knew full well that Sandusky was ASS FUCKING a 10 YEAR OLD BOY IN THE LOCKER ROOM? And he did practically nothing about it while he continued with full access to that locker room for a decade - and had kids living with him???

Hes done this week and will be barred from coaching on Sat.. Any wagers?

glad I didnt bet against you

I read the Grand Jury report on Saturday, as I heard the story breaking here before it went national. There were also instances that Paterno and others knew about that happened years before the shower incident, and he and others ignored. In fact, after past allegations, and after he had retired, Sandusky was still allowed access to all areas of campus, and still had an office. And after early allegations, Sandusky was still allowed to run a children's group at a remote Penn State campus. All of that was allowed by PSU President Graham Spanier. Not taking any burden off Paterno, because he let Sandusky walk around campus as a known pedophile for 9 years, but Spanier would be fired before JoePa. As of now, Spanier still has his job, and the only things I hear about it locally are people pressuring him to resign.

Unless there are new charges, or the public outcry grows immensely, the board is taking no action until after their special committee conducts its own investigation. See citation here:

Following the meeting, the trustees issued a statement saying Friday they would appoint a special committee to investigate the circumstances detailed by the grand jury, determine what failures occurred, who is responsible, what must be done to insure it never happens again, and to ensure those responsible ?are held fully accountable.?
They won't even start their own investigation until Friday at the earliest, results of their investigation definitely won't be known within 24 hours, ergo Paterno coaches on Saturday.

Took me too long to type. :1orglaugh

I am very surprised that they actually took this action. I'm glad they did, but I'm curious to see how this will pan out with the students. Hope they have riot police nearby. These kids supporting him are crazy.

You have a keen sense of the inherently obvious :disgust

I don't know or care who Joe Paterno is, but I did get a spam addressed to my Moniker redirected mailbox. For some reason, someone is using scraped WHOIS results from adult domains to email adult webmasters. Why?

rowan 11-10-2011 06:00 PM

Bump

Why are adult webmasters being spammed about this? (Or is it just me?)
