Question for UK/Ireland residents

I was just thinking about this, always meant to ask, so here goes.

When we were in Ireland last year I noticed what seemed to be a disproportionate number of people on crutches or in wheelchairs. When I was walking around London last month, I noticed the same thing.

Was there some illness that struck the islands or something? Just wondering. It seemed like there were a lot of kids especially.

Touristy areas? I can only think that maybe they were on days out as part of R&R, certainly don't see a lot of either on my usual travels.

It's probably people scamming benefits so they don't have to work lol. Like Jel says tho, if it's in the tourist areas it very well could be day trips for old home residents or something.

Well, I don't know, it seemed like just walking down the main drag of Dublin and the side streets of London (probably the more touristy of the two), but they were not panhandling and like I said, it seemed like more youngsters. That is what made me notice it.

Never noticed that.

I think if it is something that is part of your normal day, it goes unnoticed. Let's see if you notice the next time you are out and about.

Did you watch that program about that guy living in a council flat claiming he had a bad back and claiming Icapcity Benefit. He also owned two yachts and a farm house over in France. When they set him up he came to the pub riding a bycicle and showed the guy video footage on his laptop of him sailing lol

Many make a living by claiming benafits.

You do get groups on day outs with disabled children but I can't say I ever noticed A lot when I worked in London.

Well, it isn't like I saw gangs of them together . . . just seemed like a lot for the number of people.

That thought crossed my mind earlier . . . . you may be right.

I havent noticed any significant number and I just moved to London so I tend to notice every weird little thing. But maybe they were all ran over from cars coming from the wrong side of the street!!!! The scariest part of being new in town is that I always have the feeling I´m gonna get ran over because I never know where cars are going to be coming from. I´m very happy they are pretty amazing with their signals on the streets, it has saved my butt a couple of times already.
