iPad2 Owners

Do you simply prefer using the tablet alone, or do you actually put it in a docking station, and/or use the standard keyboard (when at home) versus the touch pad? If the latter, how do you like it?

Depends were i use it..
If i need to type fast than i put my BT keyboard in reach, for the rest the normal KB on screen does fine..

Sharky 11-04-2011 12:37 PM

Just the tablet alone. Defeats the purpose to attach a keyboard. IMO its an information consumption device, not to be used for working at length. It's great for when you are on the go, but not to sit down and do a days worth of work on. lol

True dat.

However, a lot of times I find myself trying to type out emails and frankly I am much faster on a traditional keyboard. If I can hit someone back with a one line zinger, that's fine. But otherwise, it gets to be a bit much to hunt and peck on the screen Kb.

Just recently purchased an iPad 2, these things are amazing. I don't have a keyboard for it, don't think I will get one. It's just a fun thing to play around with or check certain things when I'm at friends houses, etc.

blazin 11-04-2011 01:20 PM

As previous poster... use it to consume content rather than create... mostly read email, watch movies and read ebooks. And of course Flipboard for my RSS feeds :)

FlexxAeon 11-04-2011 01:43 PM

i bought a zagg folio for mine but haven't been getting much use out of it. only when i take it out of town and use it as laptop replacement. in general i prefer to just lock orientation and hold it while i'm flopped on the bed, couch, etc

Kenny B! 11-04-2011 02:41 PM

Why do I need a keyboard to play angry birds?

Zorgman 11-04-2011 02:43 PM

Love the on screen keyboard. It's different and I like it. Infact I wish they would make a keyboard that you can change in a digital format. That would be cool. Just for the Mac or PC.

Allison 11-04-2011 02:44 PM

Just prefer the ipad alone. Keyboard is good enough. If I have to type something really long I use a regular computer.

slapass 11-04-2011 02:47 PM

I use my ipad 2 at home so when I need to do something for real, i run to the laptop. That sounds worse then it is as I use the Ipad every single night for hours. I love it.

Well, when i feel i need to do something "real" i just switch on my Apple BT KB..i can do lots of work from iPad alone without the need of a PC.. i love it and it's great to be able to work on different places other than my office desk

Bought a keyboard from Micgadget http://store.micgadget.com/covers-an...or-ipad-2.html

and I like to use it when I am outside my house. Gives protection and I can place it at on a table. At home there are no need for a keyboard playing "Risk" and reading news :)

I have a friend who does technical writing/instruction documentation for different companies. All he uses now is an Ipad 2, a Bluetooth keyboard and a stand/docking station.

He says he can take to the client's job site, set up in few minutes. He uses Quickoffice for most things and can work easily form anywhere. The last few clients he worked for were so impressed by his setup they hired him for more/larger jobs. He walked in and they asked him what kind of setup he needed. He pulled out the Ipad and keyboard and told them that all he needed was a table with a wall outlet nearby. They told him the last guy they hired needed a computer with a dual monitor setup and a whole list of things.

I like using mine for updating blogs (among the other things I use it for) or for late night surfing/forum posting/emailing. When I want to take it somewhere I pop it in my rocketfish capsule case or at home if I need to quickly use a keyboard for something I'll hit the power button on my small aluminum Apple keyboard and it pairs connect instantly.

Apple PT KB?

SomeCreep 11-04-2011 10:27 PM

I use mine with a smart cover that helps prop it up when needed. No keyboard, but thats because i dont do any word processing on my ipad.

AdultKing 11-04-2011 10:37 PM

I use mine without an external keyboard, tapping this out on the iPad2.

I run ssh clients, remote system management tools, some productivity software and a few games, Flipboard, Facebook, tweet deck etc all without an external keyboard. If I need to do something requiring more keystrokes then I'll flip open the MacBook Pro.

As some one already said, you can use an iPad for hours without needing to resort to a keyboard, however the on screen keyboard is fine.

Lykos 11-05-2011 06:32 AM

I just use it as it is,tablete alone...
for everything else i use laptop,IPAD2 is great to have it while traveling when it comes to me!

The iPad2's have built in bluetooth so if you already have a Mac, you can use your Mac's keyboard. (You can actually use any bluetooth keyboard).

I haven't purchased one yet but have played with it lots of times at the Apple store. It's built-in soft keyboard works surprisingly well and is perfect for travelling.

No matter how you use it I'm sure you'll love it.

Otterbox

Get the Otterbox case for the Ipad2. It has a built in stand. The case retails for $90 but i got mine on Amazon for about $40. Highly recommended.
