$1 Domains
Can anyone explain to me the point of "shopping around" for $1 domains?
I've used 4 name registrars in the 12 years I've owned domains, and personally feel that just keeping all my domains together with one single good registrar is almost more important than the price of the domains. As well as the fact I simply don't get the "value" in saving $9 a YEAR on a domain? It's $0.75 a month. What amount of domains are you people buying in which that actually adds up to "give a fuck" amounts of money? Why is anyone inclined to jump on $0.75/month savings? Explain please. |
well when people own 1000's, saving money is pretty important but i do agree that i rather register with my usual registrar than save a few bucks.

Blackhats love it.

1k domains at a saving of $9 per year = $9k per year per 1k domains.
Saying that, I pay ~$9 per .com and don't bother shopping for the latest deals/offers. |
IMO it's good if you want to try out something new cheap...
if it works/goes on - you'll just renew it at regular price... |
Dont put all your domains in one registrar :2 cents:

You can call it saving 9$ per year or you can call it earning 9$ per 10 minutes (or whatever time you spend registering it)

where's the $1 coupon code?

In an interview about how to get rich, Donald Trump once mentioned the impact of saving 10 cents per light bulb. 10 cents doesn't seem like a lot of money, but once you're talking about 1000s of light bulbs, it starts to add up pretty quickly...

I didn't start a thread to get hypothetical numbers from people pulling them out of their asses. I asked: What amount of domains are you people buying in which that actually adds up to "give a fuck" amounts of money?
*bold = those people buying $1 domains. So is anyone actually buying 1000's of NEW (as the $1 price is only for new purchases and not renewals), or are you all just pulling that number out of thin air? Seems the blackhat reply is the only one so far that makes sense - I could see a blackhater buying up a fuck ton of domains for a single project. So they'd want to get them as cheap as possible to not only save money but make the domains even that much more disposable. |
used to have a shitload now I usually float between 450-550 and 99% of them at one registrar, price matters but good service trumps a few cents saved :2 cents:

I'll buy a $1 domain from godaddy when there's a coupon, and I'm registering a domain that I either don't plan on using right away or I'm not sure of it so $1 is worth picking it up on a hunch.
I don't keep domains at Godaddy, 90% of my domains are at Moniker/Namecheap/Internet.bs |
I always jump on the $1 domains. I usually buy a domain, setup the blog, and if for some reason they make no sales then I won't renew them...thankfully almost all of the domains I purchase make at least 1-2 sales within the year which pays for the renewal price. I like the $1 domain deals because it's a really cheap way of making profit off them.
