I've had two articles of mine on Slashdot. I'm one of the original nerds with a very low five-digit user number on there :) The /. effect actually isn't too bad...my server stayed up just fine both times. Just prep and make any dynamic pages cache and only update themselves every "x" minutes.

will they link any porn on slashdot? even like, cool porn?

i partnered with a guy awhile back who is doing porn for Danger PDA devices.

They seem to cover porn related stuff in a categorical way or not at all. Palm porn has been a story at least once.

fletcher: i never really thought about that. mine is in the mid 5 digit range. i'm not an original nerd, i found out about slashdot from someone at work who brought it up in the context of the meta moderation paradigm. we were talking about possible changes in the way our developer forums could be structured.

i do however have the original use of the word 'nerd' in my hand right now. It's on page 47 of "If I Ran The Zoo" by Dr. Seuss. Since this is a first edition, I'm feelin' especially undeservedly old school. :)
