What's Your Number?

Mine is 3,409,517,199, according to the BBC. Today, the world's population officially hit the 7 billion mark, and the BBC has provided a tool that you can use to figure out what number you were, approximately, at the time of your birth.

Obviously, it's not real scientific, but interesting and fun.

BBC Tool

Amazing that we haven't hit it sooner. The 7th Billionth Baby was born in India.

I heard on the news Friday that there are two claims on this. The UN census says it wont hit until early next year but nonetheless we are there.

It's hard to believe that the entire world had less than a million people living here about 150 year ago. We hit the billion mark in the 60's as I recall reading and it just keeps escalating.

If you want to get to the core of all of the worlds problems, you need to start here but this is not a topic anyone can or will address as there is no way to do it and be popular. Even the mere mention that we are headlong into a population crisis seemingly makes you anti human since, what are the options?

WTF?!?!?!

LOL! "Some 250 years ago, the world population consisted of about 800 million inhabitants" And you're thinking there were less than a MILLION people on Earth 150 years ago? Holy fuck! Hell almost 700,000 people in the U.S. DIED in the Civil war over 150 years ago.

Let's see who gets the highest and the lowest number. I think Charlie is winning on the lowest number so far. I'm guessing we'll see a lot of the 4 billion range in this group.

I stand corrected and thank you for pointing this out. I see now that I was looking at the numbers wrong for some of my information. i did find that growth rates are alarming nonetheless.

1750 - 791 Million
1800 - 978 Million
1850 - 1.2 Billion
1900 - 1.6 Billion
1950 - 2.5 Billion
1999 - 5.9 billion

The acceleration rate is what concerns me though I was wrong on my original numbers.

Obviously as the population grows over time...the growth rate will become exponential. It's just natural.

It will accelerate even faster every year. Simple math says so.
Nothing can be done about that (except killing a shit ton of people or some kind of insane govt. mandated sterilization program)
