DENVER ? At least seven people were arrested in downtown Denver during a confrontation between Denver Police and Occupy Denver protesters Saturday afternoon.

Witnesses say some in the crowd were throwing objects at police, and that a few officers patrolling the protest on motorcycles were pushed off their bikes. No injuries were reported.

Sources say a few officers have resorted to pepper spray and other non-lethal devices in an effort to control the crowd.

Developing story?

It won't be anger towards the federal government that eventually causes rioting; it will be missteps by local police departments. The writing is on the wall. Cops have decided to ignore history and come down on demonstrators with an iron fist. That never works out for anyone.

The really bad part is that police violence on crowds in one city turn the crowds against the cops in other cities. When a demonstrator is killed - and it's bound to happen eventually - shit is going to hit the fan across the country. That will coax out the young male protesters looking for a fight with authorities.

If you get into a similar situation as what we had over here in the UK with mass riots across the major cities and looting over 4 days, its a pretty crap situation to be in. Its a shit feeling when you are sat in your home wondering how long its gonna take the police to bring it under control. You get the horrible feeling that if shit hits the fan where you live the only person who will protect you and your family is yourself and against a mob you havent really got much of a chance

Doesent matter whether you are armed or not. When mobs start to burn houses down not caring whether people are inside there aint much you can do about it. They were setting fire to houses and flats over here, as well as petrol bombing police stations.

Being armed individually and banding together to complete an objective are completely different things.

We were lucky that the police did bring it under control eventually because they were struggling like hell because of the amount of riots taking place all at the same time. The only other way they could have stopped it was to bring the military in. It really shows you just how quick a whole country can desend into anarchy.

They are live streaming Police scanners now lol

Two or three cities is hardly a whole country.

Completely different situation-
Your case was a bunch of people blowing off steam rioting and destroying stuff for a few days.

In the US its people peacefully protesting for weeks and getting attacked, and at least in one case leaving a person critically injured.

Believe me, if a few people get killed it won't look anything like what happened in the UK and the cops will not bring it under control.

It was serious in some areas, particularly some parts of London (where the UK and international media is based, which is why it was hyped up, with the help of a few dramatic burning buildings), but 99% of the UK was totally unaffected by any rioting or any crime. Even each of those dots is an individual crime incident, not a city or a riot, and included in those incidents is really serious shit like:
  • criminal damage to a takeaway shop in Cowbridge Road West
  • attempted burglary at the JD Sports store
  • 13 people arrested following disturbances in Leicester city centre
The kind of thing that happens every day in the UK, and everywhere else in the world, without ever making the news.
