In the article it says it's going to make money because they'll be able to sell access to the high precision location data. Good luck with that, considering we're getting GPS for free.

And as for kicking US butts. Bullshit. GPS is here now and working just fine, Gallileo is late and still years away, massively over budget and for non military uses at least, duplicating something that already exists. Thats the kind of sucess I'm sick of paying for.

One thing that annoys the hell out of me is anyone taking the time to tell me from the outside what a wonderful thing the EU is, despite not having the faintest clue what it is, which countries are in it or why it's completely and utterly undemocratic.

The Europe is already has it's own GPS system which is called GLONASS. Yes, I said "Europe", but not the EU :pimp

The current GPS system is under the control of the US military and there have been cases of them turning it off in certain areas, even accidentally in parts of the US on occasion so a competing system is probably a good idea and is also possibly the reason why they are building an independant system.

but the difference between gps and this is that its going to be spot on.

gps is spot on, but the usa goverment has it set up to be slightly off for security reasons. they objected to the eu version.

it will be interesting to see if the usa alows gps to be 100% spot on or leave it as it is.

i think the idea is for this system and gps to work together.

trhere is a security issue. under a war the usa can switch gps off, so making it pointless for missile use. but this system could mean its used on misiles.

And never will be I hope. I don't know a single one person here in Russia who would like to see our country as a part of EU or anything else. We can be friends and partners, but not a part of. I still remember the USSR and I don't want to live in any kind of "union" again. :2 cents:

i have told him to go to the usa for a holiday as he coould buy clothes there.

it will kill him one day as he does not exersize, he even bought a bungalo so he did not need to go up stares.

by the way as for as i am, conserned, any country that enters the fantastic eurovision song contest automaticly is part of the eu.
