OLD SCHOOL PRO WRESTLING FANS: Scott Hall aka Razor Ramon - nWo - The Sad Story (video)

It hurt my heart to watch this. Yes I know wrestling is fake blah blah blah. But this is pretty sad. I was a huge fan of this guy growing up. I loved his act. His swagger. His ability to really get a pop from the fans and entertain (that really is a gift even if its just to entertain morons). He was the best. I havent seen him or heard of him in over 10 years but I remember him as this larger than life entertainer. Disturbing the fall this guy has had in life.

Scott Hall. NWO, Razor Ramon.
Loved that act so much I created the whole BP4L Family thing on GFY after it 10 years ago.

Sad to see the real life of this guy. Its always sad to see someone fall from grace. Rock Stars, Athletes, Movie stars, and Wrestlers. Its the real life story of that mickey rourke movie The Wrestler.

Anyhow, for you old school Wrestling fans from the 90's (back when it used to be good and watchable) I thought Id show this video that is pretty well done by espn on Scott Hall

Thanks for posting that.

Very sad indeed, but fascinating to watch, none the less.

Fuck, that's sad. I have tried to watch wrestling at least a half dozen times over the years since the NWO era and it has never been the same... not even close.

Vince McMahon is a complete piece of shit. How many hundreds of millions of dollars did he make off of guys like this and he doesn't even offer them health insurance, a pension, nothing. Figures his cunt of a wife would run for Congress on the Republican ticket. Those guys need to form a union.

wow thanks for making me depreseed/

Sad to see him today. Pro Wrestling is a tough biz, ironically the more they clean it up, the less and less interesting it becomes.

I guess that's what booze and drugs will do to you after years and years of use. Sad story.

I go way back to Vern Gagne, The Crusher, Killer Kowalski, Jesse The Body Ventura, the guy who always lost.. Kenny Jaye and the lil bald announcer Mean Gene Okerland. Throw Bobby Heenan in there. :). AWA in Mpls.

Anyone remember the tag team combo: Gorgeous Bobby Heenan and Handsome Harley Race. The names are endless. Fun stuff when you are young. Add Larry Pretty Boy Hennig who was local actually.

I watched some of the 90s stuff like Ric Flair and Macho Man but I wasnt as in to it by then but they were pretty much old school still.

Really amazing how many pro wrestlers went on to tragedy before they hit 50.

Edit: Actually it was Larry Pretty Boy Hennig and Handsome Harley Race. Gorgeous Bobby Heenan was their manager. What a trio.

Believe it or not, the editor of this video also does National Geographic Locked up Abroad series. It is a very sad documentary though.

check out Jesse The Body right at the opening. He was a character.

Followed by a young Hulk Hogan in 1981 at 2:00 in, Andre the Giant at 3:00 in

here we go baby, this was real wrestling

Mad Dog Vachon was the craziest

There was no wrestler cooler than The Crusher from Milwaukee

The Crusher & Dick the Bruiser (his brother)
vs
Blackjack Lanza (cool dude) & Blackjack Mulligan w/manager Pretty Boy (at that time) Bobby Heenan

it's all out there, amazing stuff

That's really fucking sad, I used to be a huge WWF fan when I was a kid. My dad would take me to all the events and knew someone who got us in to meet coco beware, the iron sheik and the junkyard dog, as a kid those guys were larger than life.

Years later I was at Solid Gold a strip joint in Montreal hanging out with some girls who worked there. There was a wrestling event in town and all the guys came into the club after, razor ramone was one of the only guys who left the vip area upstairs to go mingle with everyone in the club, he seemed like a great guy.

All those guys got smashed that night except Yokazuna who just sat on 2 chairs and stared at the stage lol.

good times! Sad to see what years of drug and alcohol abuse does to someone who seemed larger than life.

waltgator 10-20-2011 08:52 AM

dang that sucks, i used to watch him & hulk hogan, junkyard dog, etc...hope he gets the help he needs

Vendzilla 10-20-2011 10:14 AM

all those guys are in bad shape in their old age, few can still move around easily, hulk hogan does pretty good for what he did to his body during all that.
I stop at a carls jr every once in a while, the owner is the son of Gorgeous George.

The Rock was smart and got out at the top and started movies

kane 10-20-2011 10:54 AM

It seems like a lot of these guys end up like this. Down and out with nothing. I saw a piece on Tony Atlas a few years back and how and he and several other guys who were at one time huge, major wrestling stars are now doing shows in a school gym for 30 people in hopes of making $50 and they have nothing to their name.

It seems like the perfect storm of wild lifestyle, not saving money and physical problems from years of beating up their body hit a lot of these guys. It is sad.

They're independent contractors. But, and I'm pretty sure it's in that video, Stephanie McMahon is asked about WWE paying for rehab for their wrestlers, and how much it costs WWE to do that.

Here's a link to a blurb about it on a wrestling dirtsheet:

http://www.lordsofpain.net/news/wwe/...uperstars.html

Quote:

ESPN has posted a preview of their upcoming E:60 special on Scott Hall and his troubles over the years. Stephanie McMahon spoke with ESPN about how much money it's costing to put Hall through rehab. She said:

"It's the most amount of money we've spent on anyone. I just want Scott to get help and to decide for himself that he needs help. It makes me sad. I don't want anybody to pass away prematurely or otherwise really. Scott was an incredibly talented performer, larger than life, charismatic. He's a father, he's a friend. I'm sure he means a lot to a lot of people and it would be a shame for him to pass away."

She also commented on how WWE takes care of their talents:

"In addition to that substance and abuse program, we also have cardiovascular testing, we do blood checks, we do physicals, we do concussion testing akin to the NFL. We're really about maintaining the health and well-being of our superstars because without our superstars we don't have a business."

"The superstars of today -- they're businessmen. They realize the healthier they maintain their bodies, the better they are going to perform, the more money they're going to make. They're more about playing with their iPads and gaming devices than they are about going out and hanging out at the bars."
They will cover rehab for any superstar who ever wrestled with WWE. Matt Hardy left WWE years ago, and went to rival TNA. He was recently let go from TNA after being charged with a DUI. When faced with court, he decided it was in his best interest to go to rehab. WWE is footing the bill for his rehab, even though he hasn't been inside a WWE ring for years.
