What do you think about free domains?

Services like this: http://www.freeavailabledomains.com/

the offers free domains, kinda cool to build a few blogs I guess.

B.Barnato 10-17-2011 03:12 PM

Not really.

Si 10-17-2011 03:16 PM

.cc got canned by google if I remember right, because of this very thing and people using them for spam.

baryl 10-17-2011 03:17 PM

You get what you put in to it. If you don't think a blog or site is worth spending ten bucks over for a real domain then why even bother?

:2 cents:

And a free domain will end up costing you more in the long run. Yes, costing more. They will charge you crazy prices like $50 to renew something a year or so later if you want to keep it.

Si 10-17-2011 03:20 PM

Ooops, I forgot, it wasn't .cc that got canned but it was this and similar services because they were being used for spam.

Don't waste your time!

If the setup time is 5 minutes and there will be no maintenance, let's say you have a technique to make $5 per year from the domain/site and you live in a third world country; probably onto a winner

sounds legit.

you'll be building traffic for them and you'll only have a subdomain, not a domain. There are no free meals, sorry :2 cents:

it was .co.cc that got canned. .co.cc wasn't an official subdomain, but a company that was giving away "free domains" like this.

I posted some free boys name blog.com names today. There are some girls blog.com names also. Some of them are pretty good if you have a name like burt or mabel

you are supposed to use it for links, not build traffic to these domains... you get 100s different ones = 100s of free links... there is a little more to it, but you get the idea ;)

Lol I know exactly what you mean, did that years ago and it worked (then). But when the time comes for all those domains to renew it's going to cost a small fortune. I guess it's worth it just for the year or so though..

B.Barnato 10-17-2011 04:12 PM

nevermind

these domains aren't on "sale" for free, they're free period. Not example.com, think free subdomains like example.co.cc.

.co.cc has been delisted from google, so they're practically worthless.

AzteK 10-17-2011 04:38 PM

It's a sub domain provider. There are uses for the sub domains. :) Just need to get creative.
