Is The American Cancer Society A Giant Scam?

We have spent more than $3.5 billion on cancer research since 1948 and have played a role in nearly every cancer breakthrough in recent history.
People world-wide have donated billions to this charity. They claim to have spent $3.5 billion on cancer research and have played a role in nearly every cancer breakthrough in recent history. Why then, are people with cancer left to die because they can't afford the drugs or treatments that the people who donated were responsible for developing?

We donate, drugs and treatments are developed with our donations, then we're charged astronomical amounts of money for the treatments and the drugs we've provided, or left to die because we can't afford them.

I just don't get it. Is this one big massive scam by the drug companies? Fund our research, pay our bills, and when we develop something, we'll charge you a fortune.

Almost everything is a scam.

Natural herbs and diet don't pay as much as chemo. Duh!

Whatever the motive besides finding a cure is still progress in the right direction. Let's think about aids, 20 years ago the drugs available today were not affordable and now they are and people are living much longer. Should we have not supported the research?

Now making the drugs available to the masses is a whole different story and having a good health care system plays a huge role in it.

IMHO..unfortunately the whole Cancer Industry is a scam. Cancer is most common in the populations who receive the most vaccines, we are effectively being injected with disease. The Cancer Industry builds mansions and buys sports cars from Cancer. If Cancer disappeared then it would be like if Internet porn got banned for us. They need Cancer, Chemo is there to give secondaries to create repeat business; it's a con. Most of Western Medicine is designed for profit i.e. repeat business/cross-sales, it is not the objective to cure you :2 cents:

it's surprising that the progress is so slow, over the past few decades, probably trillions of dollars were spent on research, after all it's one of the most important health problems in the world, and it seems very little progress has been made...

My friend's mom had pancreatic cancer and was getting treated with something experimental, I don't know all the details. She posted updates to facebook, with pictures of her mom, and it's been disturbing to see her get so skinny and fade away.

Anyway, she posted tonight that her mom had died. She was a great lady, someone that always took the neighborhood kids in off the streets, fed them, things like that. She had a successful business and was well off at the beginning of her battle. A month ago the money ran out from this experimental treatment, and so the treatment stopped. Now, she's gone, because she ran out of money. Maybe she would of died anyway, it's an aggressive form of cancer, but it just made me wonder, and it made me angry. We donate and are responsible as a society for discovering treatments and drugs, but then we're denied those treatments and drugs if we don't have money, even if we donated.

That 3.5B is probably nothing compared to the grants pharmaceutical companies get to develop new drugs. I can't remember where I read it exactly but I think it's about 60% of the cost to develop new drugs is funded by government grants.

After seeing how much money is kept from donations to run the organizations, I never donate to anything but local organizations, I would rather help friend thats down and out.

Mother Teresa took millions for the poor, majority of it was used for nunneries

3.5B over 60 years is peanuts. With that budget, I'm surprised they have been able to do anything at all.

I spoke to a cancer researcher at the NIH and I was told that they do not need any more money for cancer research. They have more than they can spend. What they need are more scientist doing research. When you're donating money, you should be donating to cancer "awareness" not cancer "research".
