Anything fun to do in Detroit?
 

I know I'm early, but in april I'm going to see a Black Hawks v Red Wings game in detroit and I was wondering if there is anything fun to do or see in Detroit. Any good restaurant recommendations?

Ok, if i was in Detroit right now with like 2,000$. I would get a bunch of beer and hire a helicopter pilot to take me and my stripper GF around the city shore till i want to sleep. I donno, just trying to give you ideas.

This is so true. It is a complete dump. I stayed at the mgm grand when i was there which is actually really nice but outside looked like war zone.

I have stayed there myself a few times. It's a nice hotel. I do not like to drive back across the state, 2-3 hours, after going to a concert. I've been told it is one of the nicest of the Detroit casinos and has most of the trendy nightclubs I guess. Although I have never been to the others. You had a nice view of the Ambassador bridge out your bedroom window,.... over the war zone.

There is a lot of beautiful architecture in some of those older homes when you drive through Detroit. Even downtown, you have some of these Cathedrals that are just amazing. Kinda sad to see how far it's fallen from the glory days. It almost brings a tear to ye eye to see some of these building that were once lovely, and now are all blown out and look like they are in Beirut. There are even some downtown by Ford Field, and Comerica Park.

Westin Book Cadillac is a great spot downtown if you want a nice meal and some drinks. It has a nice trendy bar you can hang out at after your meal.

Go to Belle Isle and have a picnic. You can see Canada from there. It's fun, it's cheap and it will kill a few hours.

Mexican town is pretty good, great food and safe, other then that put on a nice watch and walk around to see if you can survive! It's fun!

Go on a safari.

Btw, I grew up in the Detroit area. Most of my family lives in the Detroit area.

Lets see.... My Stepfathers mother was stabbed in the eye with a screwdriver while taking money out of an atm.

My cousin was shot and killed at a house party.

My sisters friend was raped and murdered by a crackhead.

My brother was beaten and mugged after parking his car and walking to a Lions game.

I was mugged twice in my lifetime living in that area.

Growing up, our house was broken into and vandalized on several occasions.
My car had 3 stereos stolen, one time they took the entire speaker installations out.

Just recently, I was loading my luggage from a downtown hotel and the shuttle bus driver pulls up behind me and honks his horn for me to move. I didn't move fast enough so he gets out of his shuttle bus and chases me out of the parking lot with a bat. And this guy was employed by the hotel. LOL.

Oh yea, there was also on one occasion I woke up hearing a commotion outside my window, and saw a man beaten to death by 7 or 8 guys. They were kicking the man in the face over and over, like Jason Hanson doing a kickoff on Ford Field.

Ok fair enough, your opinion is obviously qualified on the matter. Just seemed that you were perpetuating an outdated stereotype in your post above. I mostly am around the heart of the downtown area so all lighted and cops around so I have never had any issues like that.

I see your from Canada... I had the privilege of visiting Toronto this summer. Very nice city. I had a great time there. Hard to believe Detroit is so close. Even Niagra Falls on the US side is a dump. Just cross the bridge into Canada, and it's fucking nice.

People think America is so fucking great. Some places are great, but most of it is shit.
