SecuredServers.com ? Anyone use them?
 

So I caught Bigtymers signature and checked out their site. The prices appear to be really nice but I'm wondering if anyone uses their service.

I've been with Phatservers, now Amerinoc for YEARS. My Cpanel runs slow but their support staff is by far amazing. I just sent them an email about something needing to be installed on my server for a script I wanted to run and it was installed inside of 5 minutes. I was shocked.

I have about 40 domains hosted, most with some kind of website attached. I pay $150 a month right now with Cpanel, managed hosting and unlimited everything.

I'm afraid to switch but money is tight and I'd love to pay less if possible.

SecuredServers is awesome, best host I've been with.

They are self-managed, so don't expect them to install scripts on your server or add domains. If you can manage your own servers, they simply can't be beat.

Well, would my server come with everything on it that I need or do I need to install my own PHP, Mysql etc etc?

There prices are lovely. They are owned, or backed, by CCBill. Solid company.

However, if you do not know how to manage your own server, you are best served staying with PHAT. The pennies you save on a server will not outweigh the potential headaches on an unmanaged if you do not know how to handle your own box(es).

I've been with them for a little over a year now, so I don't remember if php/mysql/apache/dns/etc was already installed or not. Regardless, you would be responsible for installing/updating/administrating the server software.

Honestly, if you can't install php/mysql I would stay with Amerinoc. They're a very good host as well.

If you get the server with cpanel it would have php etc. But you would still need to configure it yourself. Anything like mplayer, mencoder, ffmpeg etc you would need to install yourself.

Or do anything to the server after they install the OS/control panel. You'll need to secure the server yourself. If you just leave the default settings on a new server someone will get in sooner or later. If someone does get into the server to spread viruses or spam it's the customers problem. Obviously any host would cut you off too if you didn't take care of it quickly. SecuredServers might help in situation like that but I seriously doubt it, you're not paying for support.


Talk to Amerinoc and see what they can do to get the cost down. I know they have older decent servers for less than $150. I use to have a cheap dual core with them for $110. I would also ditch cpanel, Amerinoc can probably move your sites to directadmin. There's more to cpanel than directadmin but you pay more for cpanel, some host charge $30+ just for cpanel. You could also pay quarterly to get the cost down.
