Sold my biz for $6,125
Sold my parking service for $6,125 on flippa. At first I was really disappointed that it sold for so low, but then I checked my "give-a-shit" meter and discovered, hey, I don't give a shit. I am done with the site and took the money. I haven't worked on the site for more than a 2 years.
At it's best, it was hosting 48,000+ domains, had 750,000 topics, and was making about $1000 a day. I never quite hit the 50,000 domains mark. At it's worst (um, that would be yesterday), almost all the customers had left, and was making 50 cents per day (less than 100 visitors a day). Huge members area with stats and growth projections etc, keywords, templates, auto-harvesting, images, wallpapers, mini games, etc. The guy that bought it is a former customer, and was instrumental in bringing the site up to the $1,000 a day mark. He is going to try to do that again. http://www.rentyourdot.com |

Good on you, I know I've held sites too long after I stopped working on them and the value slowly goes to nothing.
Can you recommend a good domain parking service to use? |
That's what I was thinking. If I had sold the site only 6 months ago I would have raked it in. It was only doing about $500 a month but that would have given it so much more value than $0 a month.
I can't recommend a parking service, as I have never found a parking service that was better than mine. Most parking services just park. Rentyourdot had real content, and (when it was launched) was really good at tricking Google to sending it traffic because of that content / games / wallpapers. Rather than park, spend half a day ane make a script that harvests / generates 500 pages of content and then throw up some ads on it. Even if your site in the slow lane, it's still better than parking it. |
What is it called?

Good luck in the future man.

In 2004, I was building a site that I couldn't get traffic to. Just for fun, I made 10000 html pages, that had about 100 links on each, all random words. I totally forgot about those pages. One day I looked at my traffic and those 10000 pages were generating all the traffic. Garbage text. So I made rentyourdot, a much more polished version of "garbage text in a can", that Google just ate up! Basically, rather than park your domains, make "fake websites with content" on them and google sent me tonnes of traffic. Garbage text is always unique, and the content was served from unique IP addresses, all servered from the domain itself, no redirection. Google loved it. Until some Google employee noticed the mass of traffic they were sending all these domains, and within about 2 weeks all traffic went down to 20% of the amount, then 10%, then 2%.... |
