How do you pay someone in Argentina?

I need to make a payment to someone in Argentina, but there seems to be no method of payment...

Banks will steal his money, paypal won't let him sign up, checks or cash in an envelope will be opened as soon as they enter Argentina... so how would you pay a guy down there?

I guess he works for free?? :Graucho

Dax 02-01-2003 09:45 AM

Send them coffee beans or rice...:winkwink:

asuna 02-01-2003 09:49 AM

free work :thumbsup

Paul Markham 02-01-2003 09:50 AM

Try Western Union.

Not such a stupid post. Share the knowledge.
:thumbsup

MiLo 02-01-2003 10:40 AM

Use Western Union, hands down.

OR put a bag of rice, a bag of coffee and a
mexican prostitute on a small trained donkey, put
him on the US/Mexico border and yell *camine derecho, carajo!*

That kind of payment arrives in a year more or less, usually
you lose the prostitute half the way, but is the method of
payment i prefer.

If you´re in Europe, replace the donkey with a bird or a canoe.

res 02-01-2003 04:21 PM

But Western Union works via the bank... And that is another way to steal...

Roberto 02-01-2003 04:25 PM

western union, either that or milo's method (works for him) :winkwink:

oh, or a check but fedex'ed, arrives in 3 days.

Gary 02-01-2003 04:26 PM

Send him food of course

Ohh, sorry please... I know few countrys where WU works via bank.

Mutt 02-01-2003 06:24 PM

i have paid programmers by Western Union. It's good but it comes at a price, forget what the fees are but after the first two times I used it I started telling these foreign guys who only accept Western Union that the WU fees come off their check.

Dugmor 02-01-2003 06:29 PM

Pay them in Chickens and goats !

psyko514 02-01-2003 06:34 PM

give him a donkey

Mr.Fiction 02-01-2003 06:49 PM

A wire transfer to a bank should work fine. We've wired to all kinds of strange countries without problems.

UncleJimmy 02-01-2003 06:52 PM

Western Union has worked well for me sending payments to a few different places.

Other than that bank wires did the job as well.

:thumbsup

Kimmykim 02-01-2003 07:29 PM

http://epassporte.com you silly goose, that's how you pay him :)

missnglnk 02-01-2003 07:45 PM

Why not bury the cash in a bag of rice and send it to him?

psyko514 02-01-2003 08:43 PM

you shouldn't be worrying about how to pay him.
he should be worrying about how you'll pay him.

let him figure it out and tell you.

Brad Mitchell 02-01-2003 09:23 PM

Western Union

Tipsy 02-01-2003 09:27 PM

Maybe the 'hand of god' will appear and take the money to him? (hmmm...the humour's probably not gonna work too well for those in the US. Oh well :) )

Paparazzi 02-01-2003 09:43 PM

as Kimmykim said, epassporte

jeffs 02-01-2003 10:42 PM

why would the banks steal his money?

Or send him a statue and plaster the money inside. It works in the movies.

ok, wihtout going into much detail, our dollar exchange rate was of 1:1 from around 1991, to 2001, our economy goes to the shitter in 2001 and the goverment decides to freeze all bank accounts and limit your withdrawal limit to $400 a week no matter how much you have in your account, at the same time the exchange rate goes from 1:1 to 1:3 (sounds stupid, i know)
so, simply speaking:

You have a bank account of 100k USD. Your money is hold hostage with a limit of 1200k a month withdraws, and at the same time it goes down from 100k USD to 30k USD (dollar/peso exchange)

who wants to move down here? :)

that's the best i can do to explain that crazy situation on a saturday night and drunk as Amp, milo might have a more logical answer :)

Hello?

It's Argentina we're talking about, you can't open a paypal account, you can't open an epassporte account, international credit cards issued by banks in Argentina are now useless outside the country by national law.

Now if you can open an epassporte account for me i'd be eternally greatful. :thumbsup

I´m going to let go of this deal man, if found out that you´re actually using that cut of the money to pay for the international stalking phone calls to my sister.

It feels like financing terrorism :(

Do you REALLY think that there are 7-11's with little atm's with cash in them on any corner in ARGENTINA where you can just use your card like that?

I've been to countries where you can't use a credit card at all. I've been to countries where they didn't even have a decent telephone system...

All of the world isn't like that heaven you live in out there in California...

For Robert ... No time to write it in English too ...

Saludos , Pablo .

take yourself on a nice little holiday to Argentina and sample some fine ladies..... then take it out of his pay cheque for your inconvenience.... he still gets his money without being stole and you get a nice couple of days in Argentina!

sounds good?

.:Frog:. 02-02-2003 09:57 AM

epassporte or Western Union.

Yep, there are lots of atms everywhere here, but they have 'pesos' (it's not like hollywood wants you to believe, all of southamerica is not a tropical jungle with monkeys running around) :)

For all non spanish speakers, this what he said:

Open an account in any private bank here in Uruguay and transfer the money here. If not just ask them to send a check via FedEX and then cross the border and do the exchange here, which only costs 1% of the ammount of the check.
Or just have them use WU to a place in Uruguay and then come pick it up. And since we are in summer right now just come down to Punta del Este and take a small vacation and get your cash.

BTW I have friends in Punta del Este. =)

Dax 02-02-2003 11:29 AM

That's the beauty. Anyone with an epassporte Electron card can use it to withdraw cash in any country... in that countires currency. Peer-toPeer transfers are instant and cost a helluva lot less than Western Union without any of the headaches.

Not only is epassporte quick, easy, and inexpensive compared to all other P2P methods, but cardholders can be anonymous. All accounting is online and your account name can be whatever you want it to be.

Kimmykim 02-02-2003 03:19 PM

So Rand, you are saying that someone in Argentina CAN receive money on an epassporte, am I reading this correctly?

That was one of the things that impressed me about the system when I saw it at the show, the fact that those paypal type limitations would go away for the person RECEIVING money. It might be a bit more tricky for an Argentine to load money onto the card, but they can still get it out in at least one manner.

Can you make sure I am on the right track here Rand?

Thanks

Heineken 02-02-2003 03:51 PM

And an online postcard

Pablo, estás seguro? :( Las noticias de Uruguay parecen ser exactamente las mismas que sucedieron en Argentina

Roberto (and other): not everyone is corrupt, not even closer to that 99.99%. 99.99% of politicians are, that's for sure, most of them are in US banks payroll or CIA or both of them, but most of the people works hard and honestly. Argentina is a very rich country under economic and militar slavery from IMF (FMI) and USA, so let's cut the crap, I'm not corrupt (I'm not Argentinian, by the way) and none of the people I know is corrupt

Captain Canada: yes, you're right (and thanx for your biz, by the way :thumbsup )
