UFO's have been shadowing Shuttle missions

Damn, check this video out.

http://www.qtm.net/~geibdan/videoclips/sts48.qt

The Space Shuttle
The Shuttle has been the centre of UFO folklore since its first ventures into the atmosphere.

There is well documented footage of a dancing ball of light shooting over the shuttle's launch area just before the disastrous 1986 Challenger explosion and there are two pieces of video available on the net which show many disks maneuvering in the vicinity of the shuttle before they shoot off. The craft seem to be responding to what appears to be missile fire coming from Earth.

Sept 15, 1991: A camera on Space shuttle 'Discovery' was filming the curvature of the Earth during mission STS-48 and transmitting images to a NASA select cable network.

Donald Ratsch, a Maryland space researcher, managed to tape the NASA feed and was astounded to discover what appeared moving objects maneuvering some miles from the space shuttle.

Footage shows many objects cruising through space to the right of the shuttle. One object appears to exit the earth's atmosphere, then proceeded to fly parallel with the planet's curvature until a bright flash was recorded by the shuttle camera. At that moment, the object abruptly changed course by almost 120 degrees and accelerated into space. A second object that appeared stationary before the flash also accelerated in the same direction as the first one. What appears to be a surface-to-air missile is then seen rocketing toward the original position of the very lucky first object. Other objects can be seen moving in a variety of directions.

The shuttle at the time of filming was in the airspace of Australia's Pine Gap joint US tracking and intelligence installation.

Ratsches find soon made the rounds of the UFO community and soon a quality tape was obtained by NASA and analyzed. NASA claimed that the objects were ice particles reflecting sunlight. This came into serious question when Nebraska Physicist, Dr Jack Kasher, attempted to prove NASA's explanation to be correct. His extensive studies revealed that it would have been in fact impossible for the shuttle's camera's to record such particles. Kasher concluded that the objects were some sort of space craft.

Despite Kasher's finding's, NASA have stuck to the ice particle story.

Another explanation for the footage which has been thrown up is that the flash which is seen to the bottom right is actually the shuttles thrusters coming into operation. That's fine but why do the thrusters influence the objects and not the trajectory of the shuttle itself?. The curvature of the horizon does not change one iota.

Judge for yourself if you have seen the video or scroll down to download the footage.

The fact that the film was taken from a NASA craft means its credibility can't be questioned.

After the footage was aired all transmissions from Discovery were stopped.

They just mentioned on CNN that a "plane" was nearby the shuttle as it got into trouble. However, planes are totally not expected at such altitudes. CNN was kinda vague about it, hinting to an unidentified object

Thats not a UFO thats the megaload i shot last might..i got really good height on it

Paul Markham 02-01-2003 09:07 AM

Why can you not accept it was an accident. These UFOs travel half way round the universe to tlak to pig farmers in Ohio and watch our space shuttle.

Kind of like an American digging a tunnel to Africa to talk to chimps and watch the Apes.

Mind you better than flying all that way and having to have tea with the Mr & Mrs Bush. :1orglaugh

Darren 02-01-2003 09:12 AM

well they could have stopped the crash that just happened.

Spaceships and aliens again?? Look, just get over the fact that they do exist, our governments know about it and aren't going to tell us a damned thing about it because of the mass hysteria it would cause. Every guardroom on Royal Air Force bases have an official form for reporting UFO activity. If UFO's didn't exist why would we need official forms to report them on?

Here is the official Unites States Air Force AFOREPS manual. Look deep within and you'll see a section labeled "Unidentified Flying Objects".

http://www.fas.org/spp/military/docops/usaf/10-206.htm

There's even more in the 2002 updated version, which I had the link to somewhere but can't find right this second.

"They" are here.

Here is one of the mentions and its in the highest priorty section:

3.3.2. PINNACLE NUCFLASH (OPREP-3PNF) reports the actual or possible detonation of a nuclear weapon which risks the outbreak of nuclear war. This report has the highest precedence in the OPREP-3 reporting structure. Report any of the following:

Accidental, unauthorized, or unexplained nuclear detonation or possible detonation.
Accidental or unauthorized launch of a nuclear-armed or nuclear-capable missile in the direction of, or having the capability to reach another nuclear-capable country.
Unauthorized flight of, or deviation from, an approved flight plan by a nuclear armed or nuclear-capable aircraft with the capability to penetrate the airspace of another nuclear-capable country.
Detection of unidentified objects by a missile warning system or interference (experienced by such a system or related communications) that appears threatening and could create a risk of nuclear war.

Did you consider the fact that enemy crafts can also be unidentified objects if they decide to attack and invade US airspace? Kind of short-sighted if you ask me to say that they're talking about aliens..

Oh really? Read this whole chapter.

Chapter 5

COMMUNICATIONS INSTRUCTIONS REPORTING VITAL INTELLIGENCE SIGHTINGS (CIRVIS)

5.1. Subject and Purpose. This report provides vital information to the security of the United States and Canada which, in the opinion of the observer, requires very urgent defensive action or investigation by the US and or Canadian Armed Forces.

5.2. Reference Materials. Joint Army, Navy, Air Force Publication (JANAP 146).

5.3. Submitted By. Any Air Force personnel.

5.4. Submitted To:

Airborne reports: US or Canadian military or civilian communications facility.
Post-landing reports: Commander in Chief, North American Aerospace Defense Command (NORAD), Cheyenne Mt, Colorado, or HQ Northern NORAD Region, North Bay, Ontario, Canada, whichever is more convenient. If landing outside Canadian or US territories, submit reports through the nearest US or Canadian military or diplomatic representative.

5.5. When Submitted. As soon as possible after the intelligence sighting.
5.6. How Submitted. Reports are normally UNCLASSIFIED but handled as For Official Use Only.
5.6.1. Use the most rapid means of transmission available. For airborne reports use the same procedures as for air traffic control. When pilots cannot establish contact with a ground station, make maximum effort to relay the report via other aircraft.
5.6.2. To avoid delays while airborne, repeat the word CIRVIS three times before the message to preempt all other communications (except distress and urgency). If this fails to clear the frequencies, use the International Urgency Signal "PAN" spoken three times. For the ground relay of airborne reports or post-landing reports, use FLASH precedence.
5.6.3. Transmit during MINIMIZE.
5.6.4. Use the ESC C1 designator- Continue reporting, priority.

5.7. Reporting Instructions:
5.7.1. Facilities receiving CIRVIS reports will rapidly process and forward them as prescribed by JANAP 146.
5.7.2. Report all unidentifiable, suspicious, or hostile traffic (land, aerospace, or seaborne) which, because of its nature, course, or actions, considered a threat to the security of the United States or Canada. Such reporting extends the early warning defense system for the United States and Canada. There are five types of CIRVIS reports:

Issue initial CIRVIS reports while airborne (or as warranted, upon landing).
Issue post-landing CIRVIS reports if airborne reports made.
Issue followup CIRVIS reports by anyone with additional information about an earlier report (refer to the initial report).
Issue cancellation CIRVIS reports once sightings are positively identified as friendly or determined it was erroneously reported.
Submit evaluation CIRVIS reports to each addressee of the above CIRVIS reports. Promptly submit evaluation reports to keep all interested parties fully informed.

5.7.3. Report the following specific sightings:

Hostile or unidentified aircraft which appears directed against the United States, Canada, or their forces.
Missiles.
Unidentified flying objects.
Hostile or unidentified military surface vessels or submarines.
Any other individual surface vessels, submarines, or aircraft of unconventional design engaged in suspicious activity, observed in an unusual location, or on a course which may threaten the United States, Canada, or their forces.
Any unexplained or unusual activity which may indicate a possible attack against or through Canada or the United States (includes the presence of any unidentified or suspicious ground parties in remote or sparsely populated areas, including the polar region).
Unlisted airfields, facilities, weather stations, or air navigation aids.

5.7.4. Make every effort to document sightings with as many photographs as possible. Send undeveloped film or prints and negatives, with a brief written report and other identifying information to the Director of Naval Intelligence, Department of the Navy, Washington, DC 20305. The Department of the Navy will process the film and return one copy of each print and a roll of new film to the individual.
5.7.5. Use figure 5.1. to gather and report specific sighting details.
Figure 5.1. Communications Instructions Reporting Vital Intelligence Sightings (CIRVIS).

GUIDE FOR CIRVIS REPORTING
The CIRVIS report is a narrative report explaining the sighting. A specific format is not required. Provide as much specific detail as possible to aid decision makers in responding to the sighting. Include the following information if possible along with any other information which may be significant:

1. CIRVIS report identification.

2. Identification of the object(s) sighted.

a. For identifiable objects, include number and identification of the aircraft, vessel, missile, or individuals seen.

b. For unidentifiable objects, give a description including shape, size (compared to a known object e.g., pea, silver dollar, baseball, basketball, fighter aircraft, or C-5), number and formation, any discernible features or details (e.g., color, trail or exhaust, sound).

c. Include any observed identification (e.g., insignia, lettering, flags).

3. The position of the object. Include the date and time (GMT) of the sighting. This can be indicated by any of the following methods:

a. Latitude and longitude.

b. Over a radio fix.

c. True bearing and distance from a radio fix.
Figure 5.1. Continued.

d. Over a well-known or well-defined geographic point.

4. Description of the course of the object:

a. Altitude.

b. Direction of travel.

c. Speed.

d. Description of flightpath and maneuvers.

e. What first called attention to the object.

f. Angle or elevation and azimuth when first observed.

g. How long was the object visible.

h. Angle or elevation and azimuth upon disappearance.

i. How did the object disappear.

5. Manner of observation.

a. State how observed: ground-visual, ground-electronic, air-visual, air-electronic. (If electronic, specify system).

b. Were optical aids (telescope, binoculars, etc.) used?

6. Conditions when sighting the object.

a. Location of observer. (Use latitude/longitude, a named geographic landmark, or other logical references.) If the sighting is made while airborne, include type of aircraft, identification number, altitude, heading, speed, and home station.

b. Light conditions (use one of the following terms: night, day, dawn, dusk).

c. Weather conditions (ceiling, visibility, clouds, thunderstorms, temperature, winds, etc.).

7. Interception or identification action taken (if feasible, complying with existing directives).

8. Location, approximate altitude, and general direction of flight of any air traffic or balloon releases in the area which could possibly account for the sighting.

9. Preliminary analysis of the possible cause of the sightings.

10. Existence of physical evidence, such as materials and photographs.

11. Name, organization, and means of contacting the reporting individual.

Let us take a geeky approach to this mystery and see if we can come to a conclusion.

This is basically a mathematical problem with a binary solution set.

Solution 1: Aliens are here hanging about
Solution 2: Just a lot of natural phenomena and wishful thinking.

Lets first take a look at Solution 1.

1. Aliens are here yet we have no absolute proof they of their existence. That must mean they don't want to be detected or else they would simply show up in Washington, Paris etc...

2. From all those alledged encounters and sightings we can conclude that the aliens are compulsive gamblers. They definitely don't want to be discovered yet they seem to risk detention constantly. Have you ever met a compulsive gambler? Odds are (no pun intended) he doesn't have the resources for interstellar travel.

3. If aliens are true then our governments are covering it up. There is an actual equation that will give you the chances of a secret being kept. It is a function of time passed and the number of people who originally knew the secret. Assuming that the government has known about aliens since 1947 - then the odds of that secret not being exposed are astronomical.

4. Aliens are here and they crashed at Roswell. What we found from the Roswell debris was wood that wouldn't burn and foil that kept its shape memory. Wooooh. wood with glue on it may not burn right away and tin foil will occasionally unrap itself if you crumple it a certain way. Naturally if you wanted to fly to another star system you would build your craft from bulsa wood and foil. Yep, ET is here.

Solution 2

1. All sightings and encounters are natural phenomena and unexplained hallucinations. Project bluebook already concluded that 95% of the sightings could be explained. An extra 5% does not seem at all unreasonable. Scientists can recreate abduction like dreams by stimulating certain areas of the temporal lobe. Basically almost every event can be explained away except why so many members forget their passwords.

All things being equal I will stick with Solution 2. Yes it would be cool to think that aliens are here (although not very sporty of them to take out our shuttle), but it appears much more plausable that it is a lot of wishful thinking just like religion.

Now why does the Air Force have a section where you fill out Unidentified Flying Objects? For national security reasons - it is possible that object can be an ememy missile or plane.

Have to go check my stats. Its been a few minutes... Saturdays are always good :)

I remember seeing on a UFO show once another NASA-type space video... but it was analyzed with something which then showed a shitload of objects flying around, among them several large disks. Whatever it was, it was certainly interesting.

Honeyslut 02-01-2003 04:49 PM

I heard an interview on a local rock station this week from a guy from Sacramento who has been looking at over 3500 footage of films that show strange objects in the atmosphere. I guess the guy has a site online...

I am going to the radio station url now to see if any info on the site is there...
