I should have been doing mainstream WordPress projects a long time ago.

Porn is now sprinkling a few thousand on projects per week that I do now.

Some months are dry but some month are filthy wet.

3 jobs at 10gs a piece is so nice, but you have to save your money.

what kind of projects?

Small high-end businesses like computer board manufactures that have a ton of cash and don't really need a web site.

They spend at least 10gs on a website based on vanity.

funny was just going to post a thread if anyone knew of any good examples of local business sites that were using wordpress, like for restaurants and shit like that.

don't have to out your sites, but any examples of what can be done is appreciated.

What can't be done? The advantage of using Wordpress is that you give the client/customer an easy to use content management system and they don't have to rely on you as much.

Wordpress sites no longer look like Wordpress sites. I (and anyone else with the most rudimentary PHP and HTML knowledge) can break down any design into a functional Wordpress template in an hour or two.

I've done a few schools and a couple of local businesses. I see doing things for others as more of an inconvenience than anything else. Got the gigs through word of mouth. 5k was the highest I've charged so far. Maybe I should up my rates.

A lot of developers out there are making money by reselling cheap or free templates with a few modifications. Those guys tick me off. But I'm not going to hate.

Where do you find your jobs?

You can make a ton in mainstream. WordPress and a little creativity is all you need.

you're right. my last mainstream project was $13,950 sure I had to write up a 8 page proposal, contracts, web agreements but after all said and done $13,450 went to me and $500 went to photo licenses and psd2xhtml company. project took about 1month to complete and now i'm hooked. Current project now $6k site maintenance... two proposal out right now $6,500 site clean up, and $6k interactive cd for a site. my clients so far have been college, and two non-profit orgs, i'm getting ready to search for some govt funded web projects. Wordpress is always my CMS with Drupal as an option to the client as well.

for me its been a lot less stressful than other mainstream projects where the client wants 101 changes or wants a bad ass site for $300.
