software to find image dupes?

not just by filename, but actually compares them so if they are named different filenames.

anyone recommend anything?

I can't really think of any good way to do that. Maybe checksum?

Good thread. I was just curious about this as well. would be great for a mac. I know iphoto is supposed to do this, but i would prefer to not load all of these pics into iphoto. lol

Out of the programs listed there I recall using the Dup Detector couple of years ago, with some pretty good results.

Been a few years since I used one, so I'm sure they have improved. At the time, they were all shareware. I'm sure there are freeware versions now. There were then, but were limited in features. If you have thousands of pics, spending the money is worth it in time and hard drive space saved. I collect train pics, sure some I have the same pic 10x. Just never can find the time to cull the duplicates out. These programs do take time. While you sleep is best. But if if set the "check for similar images" too broad, it will drive you crazy. Especially if you have a photo set where the images where shot in rapid sequence.

I always do a Google search for whatever software I want. Download all that seem promising. Try them all. Get rid of all but the one that does me the best.

Did it work out? I just linked the first one I found that would be something I would consider using.
