This constitutes a suspesion in the NHL?

WTF? Really? This is a headshot? Maybe elbowing. The guy was hurt so bad he got up and tried to start a fight. I have no idea how 6'6" guys are going to deal with the little 5'9" guys - even looking at those little dudes the wrong way might constitute a headshot.

Players must be absolutely terrified and confused. I am.

I think Shanny is doing a great job with the suspensions so far, but that one I don't agree with. Want to send a message, then maybe the last pre-season game or something.

From that video it looked more like he ran into him than anything else.

The hit was on the same Justin Abdelkader that didn't get suspended for his gross headshot at the end of last year while everybody else was getting suspended for less

Maybe Abdelkader has friends in high places? haha

There has to be room for judgement calls with this headshot crackdown thing.

Not every collision between players is black & white.

Just as with Football players, NHL players have become too valuable to let get beaten up, and hence the ever increasing stricter rules and harsher penalties in both those sports.

Fuck the NHL

Yep. While there will undoubtedly be some suspensions that are questionable and seem lame/cheap they have to protect the players. People pay a lot of money to see these games and they don't want to see the star players knocked out for weeks/months at a time.

That's a great point - I wouldn't want my $8 million dollar man (not like I have one...) out for an extended period of time. Its good that Shanahan has got the balls to deal out some harsh justice, but he might be going just a little too far.

I'm reading a lot from players who are becoming hesitant to body check. Not the goons - those useless assholes will just cream anything to keep their over-paying jobs.

This strict enforcement is a direct result of Sidney Crosby's concussion and all of the bad press the league is getting because of head injuries.

The headshots have to go, but maybe the idiots that duck and/or turn just before they get hit should be suspended, too.

Keep your stick on the ice - and keep your head up!
