GFY Photographers. Newbie lighting question.
It's going to be more of a hobby than anything else. I used to shoot video on a 5DMK2 and a Canon 7D. Just picked up a FS100 and figured I would use my 2 Canon's for what they were meant for.
I need basic lighting to get me started. I don't want to break the bank. What should I grab? Softboxes? Strobes? Any particular brand? TLDR: I need a playskool my first photography studio lighting kit. |
First lighting kit? Try out the Alien Bees. http://www.paulcbuff.com/alienbees.php
You do need strobes unless you live somewhere sunny and only plan on using natural light. Softboxes are needed. Theres the options of using umbrellas instead but it's still nice to have a larger softbox for the body. I say a 2 light setup is enough to start. It all about personal preference, they both create different light, it's hard for us to tell you what you should get. You should possible rent or borrow some umbrellas and softboxes to really see the difference. Photoflex equipment is good priced. Between Craigslist and Ebay, you should be able to get some good stuff. bhphotovideo.com and adorama.com are good websites that sell new equipment |

Good shit! Thanks a lot. Should I be worried about bulbs or anything else that might be burned out or worn out when I buy used off of craigs and ebay? |

I really recommend ebay. Dont forget a pocket wizard or a cheap alternative, i recommend this for beginners, it's as cheap as you can get. (for setting off the strobes) http://www.adorama.com/FPRRS.html |
